RE: OJ Simpson, an alternative theory

*Sigh*

This isn't good. I watch the Dr. Phil show because he gets good crime sometimes. And of course, he's banging the OJ drum.

My hopes that the upcoming "The People VS. OJ Simpson", which airs tomorrow night on FX, would portray the victims and speak for them just got shot down in flames. The series is based on the book,"The Run Of His Life:The People VS. OJ Simpson" by Jeffery Toobin [ISBN-10 081298854X] He appears and says that the show is about the trial and that the victims are not portrayed in the series, nor are they pantomimed. He says it is not a work of fiction and admits the families of the victims were not contacted in any way.

While I can sympathize with the author, being a writer myself, it does seem highly insensitive because as Kim Goldman says, if Nicole and Ron had not been murdered, there would be no show, thereby making murder entertainment. If they don't go into the anatomy of the crime and stick to the trial only, I have to think they are leaving something out, something very important.

Of course we all know what I think about this. Not ever sparing words or opinions, I still want to see it. Do I want to get mad? Maybe. Call it fuel for my fire. It's pretty cold out.

Hi, back again. ;)  Hope you are feeling better since we last messaged.

From what I can see this series will be a travesty, since it takes so much license with the truth but even more--it panders to the idea that Simpson is guilty.

That wouldn't bother me so much if the true facts of the case were presented in a more unbiased fashion, but unfortunately that has never been in anyone's interest

(prosecution, defense, media, pundits, and so on).

In the last several months I've continued to read OJ books and am up to maybe 40 if you count academic works about DNA, eyewitness testimony and so on.  So far, I'm even more convinced it was Jason.  You just can' t deny his massive history of violence including with knives, his deep psychological problems for which he as given powerful medication, his extensive background with knives, his bizarre diaries, and so much more.  Compared to OJ, he stands out like a huge sore thumb.

One thing I'm not sure has been mentioned here.  The hair and fiber testimony given by the FBI?  That has now been admitted, even by the FBI, as totally bogus, no scientific validity whatsoever.  Those FBI examiners, the whole lot of them, were basically committing a fraud in the courts, and many people were convicted or in a couple of cases possibly executed on the basis of there wrongful testimony.  There was one test where they mis-read a dog hair for a human's for example.

Hi! How are you bronco60?

I'm much better, thank you! I managed to finally ditch the gall bladder and I'm back at work full time. World beware!   evileye

I am with you on this mini series. The reality is that OJ was not convicted of this crime and from what I can see, it looks like they are rolling on the man and making him look guilty. And he was found NOT guilty. How I feel about that aside, yesterday on Dr. Phil, almost all the guests said the show took liberties with the truth and it was insensitive in many ways. I've never been in their shoes, and I pray I never will be, because how can the families get closure with it being in their faces year after year?

Unbiased fashion...that's a good one. Most of the mass media doesn't even know what that is. I know I'm not helping by being part of them, but I always think of that quote that says you can do more good by being good than anything else.

I'm clueless on the FBI's involvement on this. What should I read to catch up with you? Have you read Jeffery Toobin's book? I'm actually going to order it tomorrow along with Susan Kleybold's book [different topic]

Are you going to watch tonight? You know I am!!  I do wish Mwat would come back for a chat. Very smart fellow.    evileye

Good to hear you are back on the warpath. smile  I am well and busy too.

I do think the Goldman's are due a lot of sympathy, though I wonder if they ever gave even the slightest thought they might be wrong.  There are too many things wrong with the case to not at least think in that direction, but of course they have a very understandable bias.  And for them to change today after years of calling him a murderer seems almost beyond human capability.

I did read Toobin's book and it's not bad as far as a general overview is concerned.  He clearly did some good basic reporting and found some unique or underreported info.  He very clearly has a bias, but did manage to point out that Simpson and AC were first discovered by a civilian heading *NORTH*, not toward Mexico, demonstrating that they were not actually fleeing but had originally headed to Nicole's grave (where a drugged and dazed OJ had  thoughts of killing himself).

I will eventually watch the video but the snippets I've seen and reviews I've read make me think I'll be wondering why they left off the laugh tracks. biggrin  I'm sure they will be milking every scandalous and dubious detail they can drum up.

The FBI actually had a few crucial bits of testimony and other involvement in the case.  Bodziak, the shoe print guy, gave the testimony showing the shoes were Bruno Maglies, and Roger Martz was the guy who gave the testimony trying to show there was no preservative in the socks (thus letting the LAPD off the hook).  Martz  was then embroiled in what became the huge and infamous FBI crime lab scandal, where agents were found to be testifying outside their knowledge, destroying notes (like they did in the OJ case), and sometimes just plain lying.  That lead to numerous false convictions and possibly even executions!

A really great book about THAT, which I highly recommend, is "Tainting Evidence" by John Kelly and Phillip Wearne (avail on amazon for very cheap).

I sent Mwat a PM  inviting him to the thread but he is probably thinking "who is this crazy person?" cry

Fun question: Why don't the bloody footprints at Bundy show a pigeon-toed suspect (OJ was pigeon-toed)?

Fun fact: the Friday morning of the infamous slow-speed chase, Denise Brown and some friends and family members went to Nicole's condo to pack up some photos and so forth.  No members of the Simpson family came by.

Except, that is for one: Jason Simpson (plus and unidentified friend).

I seriously doubt the Goldman family let it enter their minds that someone else could have done this. And that is not a fault or slander; just saying that all this hoopla would have made it extremely difficult. They say if you want to burn a building down, start from the inside. The media and the LAPD wanted OJ to be the killer and practically announced it to all and sundry. How could anyone think anyone else did it? For them to consider that someone else did it now is beyond rational expectations. They have believed OJ is the killer for 20 years. They have my sympathy and support. Their book, "His Name Is Ron: Our Search For Justice" [ISBN 10:0688151175] was a good book but it convinced me that this family would most likely never be able to recover, especially while OJ Simpson is alive and the media continues to stick it in our collective craw that he got away with.....something. Or not, depending on your viewpoint.

I'm sure Toobin's book is interesting and I'm going to give it a spin. In a review I read, the book is very biased and gets across that Toobin thinks OJ did it. That should be interesting.

Simpson needed leg braces because as a baby, he had rickets from living in poverty in San Fransisco, something his mother felt guilty for all her life. They could not afford the leg braces he needed, so he wore a pair of shoes connected by an iron bar until he was almost 5. OJ himself says it was quite the hardscrabble experience. Correct: pigeon toed. The footprints don't match because they belong to the second person there, Jason or AC Cowlings?

The biggest ha ha for me is anyone who thinks OJ was actually going to kill himself. That was one giant publicity stunt. He is, or I should say at the time, so full of himself that I don't think for a minute he would have pulled the trigger. Why would he take $3000 cash on that chase down the freeway if he was going to off himself? That makes no sense at all to me, and as I've said before, if he was really going to do it, he would have done it at Rockingham where he and Nicole spent their most loving years.

Cue laugh track  evileye

Wasn't that interesting.

FX's "The People Vs. OJ Simpson debuted tonight and I'm ashamed to admit I was on the edge of my seat. I loaded up on attitude and was all set to trash it, but honestly, it wasn't that bad. I guess all the advance prep had me ready to watch. I was ready for the fact that the victims weren't represented, but this is just the first installment. They may have a little more later on, but probably not much. It showed a quick shot of Nicole, lying at the foot of her back gate at Gretna Green, and a few crime scene photos but it was not gory or distasteful.

Maybe other people got more out of it, but I'm not crazy about Cuba Gooding Jr. He plays OJ like a wild man, uneven and full of highs and lows. They also have a brief view of a Paula Barberi figure which I thought was unnecessary. The pivotal scene for me though, was the last one, where OJ is flanked by John Travolta's Robert Shapero and Robert Kardashian played by....what the hell is that dude's name? He was on the show "Friends". David Schwimmer? Anyway, he's in the limo at the funeral, dropping pills and he gets out, with flashbulbs popping right and left. A surreal moment that the camera pans back for the eye to take in. He turns and one truly gets the sense that in reality, it had to be one hell of a scene that guilty or not, pills or not, there would be no salvation for whomever committed this crime, and barely any for those it touched.

I got asked yesterday, What's good Rocket?

This. If you think you know everything about the OJ show, give this a peep. I think I'm well versed on this topic and there were things I didn't know. I really dig Crimefeed.com. They find good info without being too horrific, although they do report on some crimes that are borderline nightmarish.

This piece is called, "The OJ Simpson Trial: Where Are They Now?" and lists all the key players and what they are up to today. Everyone from Johnnie C. to Faye R. has an update. Head on over and test your OJ knowledge.   evileye

Hey Rocket Girl,

I know The New York Daily News is hardly Pulitzer Prize winning journalism and this piece is old but I thought you'd dig it.

Danny,Reno,NV

Jesus Danny, what the hell are you doing with yourself lately? I haven't heard from you in forever you crazy man. Freaking OJ. Are you watching that circus that FX is calling a mini-series? I don't even know where to start with this tomfoolery but....

OJ got a death threat from some Aryan Nation brothers? I'm not even touching that! Wouldn't suprise me though, since OJ thinks he's untouchable and inside, NO ONE is untouchable. Here's a link.

So I took most of today off because I had to get this nerve block thing on my knee and I caught up on my DVR watching of The People Vs. OJ Simpson and It is really a piece of work. Not historically accurate and that's bad enough, but it's main focus is on the legal aspect. This bothers me of several reasons:

*the trial was really about race. It doesn't matter if you believe it or not, it WAS. And the show plays so far like that is what they fought against. They knew it was going to wind up being a huge racial issue. They failed big time.

*they put too much attention on the Kardashians. They were involved, sure but not to the extent of the kids chanting at their miserable dad at the tv while he read the suicide note. That didn't happen.

I'm sure when the court room scenes come on,I'll complain more but now, I will spare you the details. Watch at your own tolerance.

I have a treat to suggest for you: Get ahold of Jerrianne Hayslett's "Anatomy of a Trial" (2008).  She was Ito's press officer, and reveals lots of amusing tidbits about the characters (mostly media).  You'll look at Ito in a more favorable light after reading it.

She also has a blog and has been commenting on the FX series.  My favorite so far was when she mentioned seeing Kris Jenner/Kardashian moaning in an interview about how horrible it was for her to attend the trial for her poor, dear Nicole's brutal killing.  Hayslett, who was in court every day and had responsibility for seating etc., recalled that in fact Kris only found time to be in court on one day. ;)

That link is AWESOME!!!

Where do I even start? She's way ahead of me in so many ways, obviously, having attended the trial. She doesn't have a giant bias against OJ and it hasn't affected her judgement like some people COUGH *annarocket* COUGH and her blog is well written and very much to the point. Very impressive.

We agree on a couple of points: the shameless promotion of the Kardashian brand. I don't see why we have to have these people shoved in our face every 5 minutes. I'd like to hope some of us would remember that the one of the daughters got famous from a sex tape of herself and another got taken to court for stealing from the singer Brandy while she was employed as her personal shopper. Why do we need a show to "Keep Up" with them? The ChinChin restaraunt scene is a perfect case in point, she illustrates it better than I ever could. I'm thrilled someone gets it.

The series perpetuates myths. We want to believe it happened one way and the show is going to serve it to us the way they want to, no matter what REALLY happened. There's a world of difference between documentary and drama and when you say "Docu-drama" it's a huge misnomer that virtually guarantees that you are going to get a mishmash of what really happened and fictional horse hockey that is made for tv. It's entertainment people, and this murder of two people isn't entertaining to me. It was a horrible thing and nobody has ever been held accountable for it. No justice for Ron or Nicole.

High profile doesn't include victims. Very simple. It means what it says.

Check out her blog. Awesome in every way and very insightful. Thanks bronco60! Killer contribution  evileye

Haha Vanity Fair. That magazine has driven me crazy since they did the hatchet job on Kurt and Courtney back in the day. They can dig up all manner of shineola.

Of course they are on OJ all night and that's no surprise. But they are doing a fact check  and this is fact check #4. It's kind of funny. A lot of people are seeing humor in all this, I guess in some ways it could be, although I don't really get the humor. Maybe John Travolta's part is funny because he kind of looks like a clown in those expensive suits and the way he talks.

Check out Vanity Fair's fact check on the myth/truth of the OJ show.

Have you watched the miniseries on FX about the case? Fabricated and hollywoodized, sure, but, it's actually pretty good. Better than some of the other true crime stories I've watched. I still think OJ is guilty as sin.

I've been avoiding it because it's from a very biased source (Jeffrey Toobin).  Plus, going from OJ to Cuba Gooding is like going from Orange Juice to Prune Juice. :)

Sorry, can't resist, in the picks I've seen Cuba just seems really out of place.

I'm kind of curious.  You've probably seen these recent exchanges between me and annarocket.  So I'm kind of wondering...what is it that makes you dismiss the stuff about his son?  I mean, if I'm a detective and there's this young guy over here who is close to and has had up and down emotional relations with the victim AND just happens to be on probation after assaulting someone with a knife, I'd be HELLA interested even if I had another person in mind as another possibility.

And that's just one teeny tiny bit of the stuff on Jason...

I don't like Cuba Gooding Jr. as OJ. He doesn't fit the larger than life persona that I've kind of imagined after reading so much about him. The media makes him out to be someone who thought very highly of himself. He was very full of himself and very used to being the center of attention everywhere he went. I know you can't believe everything you read but....

Gooding seems small and broken. Now, OJ supposedly was a broken man after the murders but if you've ever seen the video of him pleading not guilty, yeah, he doesn't seem so broken up to me.

MSN: Los Angeles robbery/homicide police are testing a knife in the case of the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman that came in their possession years ago by a construction worker who was helping demolish OJ Simpson's former home in Brentwood,California.

Reporters were told it was it was unclear why it took two decades for the knife to become tested as evidence in the case.

Now, this isn't going to become a big deal for OJ. There's no statute of limitations for murder but double jeopardy prevents him from being tried again for the double homicide. That's not going to happen. I have to wonder, however, thanks to this topic and the awesome conversation, if it will shine some light on other suspects like Jason Simpsons or AC Cowlings. I might have my mind made up but I'm not so jaded that I can't comprehend the LAPD might try to pin this thing on someone else since nobody's been held responsible for it.

Watch this space.      evileye

I stuck my foot in it over at MSN.com....

Marcia Clark has given them an interview about how "physically painful" it was to hear the verdict in the OJ case and Jesus H, you'd think those people commenting [sadly, me included] were debating the future of the human race.

Before the trial even started, she says, she got a bad feeling by the freeway fans and their signs cheering him on his bronco trip to...well where ever he was going which turned out to be nowhere, how she wanted to put Kris Kardashian Jenner on the stand but didn't [hearsay] and how she was basically tired and demoralized by the whole damn thing.

Well no You weren't alone. The entire country was looking at you asking for justice and you failed. I know that's harsh but the truth hurts. One thing I've always wondered, even before I was a criminologist and an internet smart ass is why in the HELL did she and Chris Darden not ask for a change of venue? If I could see that he was going to get hometown boy syndrome in LA, they had to have seen it too.

*sigh* Here's your link.

I've been looking at the prosecution's exhibit of Nicole's condo, with the so-called bloody trail and other things depicted, and I've noticed something strange:

There doesn't seem to be a bloody trail!  The exhibit is reproduced in Hank Goldberg's book (The Prosecution Responds) and on Dave Wagner's site, and when you

look at the five blood drops and the marked footprints, there's only ONE drop that looks like it might be to the side of a walking killer.  The rest are either in the middle of the footprints or to the far RIGHT side of the path!

And, as prosecution foot wear expert Bozniak stated, the killer apparently made TWO walking trips to the killing area, doubling back from the alley before leaving, and on both of those trips he seems to have come near where that first "left side" blood drop was found--implying that it could have been dropped at that time, from somewhere else (the right hand?) and not as they claimed.

Remember, they knew early on that OJ had a cut on his left knuckle that he said he got in Chicago (and which the cops there confirmed there was evidence of that happening), and also remember that several people report being close to OJ and getting autographs etc, and they DID NOT SEE A CUT!!!

It seems to me the police, in their "rush to judgment",  may have taken that info they gleaned at the interrogation and simply ran with that idea this one drop equals bleeding from OJ's left hand, but like I said, this is by FAR not the only reasonable explanation for what is found there.

Very curious...

How was your weekend bronco60?

I've long thought the crime scene was tampered with, my opinion on who killed Nicole and Ron not withstanding. Had the person left the scene in the clothes they committed the crime in, there would have been one holy hell of a mess. So we can * assume* that didn't happen. If it happened the way OJ hypothisised in "If I Did It" he changed his clothes there so as not to make a mess. That leaves us with a trail of blood droplets. So the trail of blood drops left potentially was minimal and as you pointed out, could have been left by a cut. But....where was that cut?

I know the LAPD took photos of OJ's hands and he told them he'd cut his hand in Chicago but for the love of God I couldn't find them and it was giving me a headache so I quit. I'll try again later.

It's not a huge leap to think the LAPD in their "rush to judgement" may have taken info and used it against OJ. I said it before: I can't believe Skip Taft let his client get off that plane and go strait into an interview with the cops. STUPID! It blows my mind how many people yammer about knowing their rights and then forget the second one is anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law!!!

Sheesh.      evileye

Wet, thanks. biggrin  And yours?

He had a bandage on the flight back from Chicago, lots of people said.  No bandage going out from LAX, and no hiding his hand.

I was thinking about that warning, and some research I just read about how people react in interrogation situations.  It turns out (in a study done by a psychologist) that innocent people are MORE likely to want to talk to the interrogators, even if they know he is hostile.  The margin is pretty large too.  It turns out that peoples' belief in their own innocence trumps other worries.  I think citizens truly do not understand that line about "everything can and WILL be used against you".  In fact, the "can" part is sort of dishonest--they WILL, if it fits their theory in the slightest way.

Now, I don't think the cops were trying to frame an innocent guy, I think they thought he did it, and the usual biases kick in.  Like they say, when you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. disbelief

My weekend= frozen mango margaritas and grilled carne asada quesedillas at our favorite spot. Living the dream! biggrin

Man, you're not kidding about "can" and "will" being used against you. I've never been arrested and I hope I never am, but it's an extremely valid point that all rational thinking goes out the window when you're in handcuffs, that would scare the hell out of me! And OJ had more than his share of grief and stress on his mind when he had the incompetent LAPD on his back. I will always believe he is guilty, but that doesn't make the LAPD competent. Rodney King, anyone?

There has been SO much media on that knife they found on the property of OJ's former home. I can't believe how bad it has gotten. It is just nonsense. It doesn't take rocket science to know that a buck knife isn't going to slaughter two grown adult humans. Especially if it isn't just *one* person and I think by this time, most of us agree it wasn't just one person. In the words of Walter White from the show Breaking Bad,"If you want to go that way, you're gonna need a bigger knife."

Here's some propaganda for y'all.     evileye

I'm catching up on my OJ this weekend and watching the last three episodes that I've missed while real life continues. FX has really put one hell of  a show on here. I've dvr'd the last three and it's funny because I asked someone who is keeping up with the show and they told me that they knew it wasn't historically accurate [even calling me up the night it was on to ask if this or that really happened] but by now, it doesn't matter because people know it isn't factual. They are watching it for the entertainment value alone. So I tried to remove myself from the reality and just view it as a spectator, kind of like I was in a gladiator arena.

As far as entertainment, it is hard to sit through without saying,"That didn't happen!" or making snide comments about Johnnie Cochran. Courtney B. Vance makes him seem SO unlikeable it isn't even funny and after watching 3 hours of it, I was heated. No wonder America is slandering the man while he's in his grave. I'm not even printing email about that, it is ugly and unfair, the man is dead. My friend calls him a reptile and the image of him parading around his bedroom crowing his opening statements in front of his wife in a slinky nightie is pretty repulsive. Is that what the man considered foreplay? The scene suggests it. It's gross.Just as bad is his characterization that he'd,"manifested himself out of a messed up situation", in regards to his ex-wife, come on. There are suggestions that that union ended because of domestic abuse and it makes one wonder if that made him more sympathetic to OJ because he knew how it felt.

The portrait of Marcia Clark is rough. I can't help feeling bad for her. The DA's office threw her in the deep end and didn't give a damn. They really didn't, and Judge Lance Ito seemed to hold it against her personally, if you believe this television treatment. It also makes it look like she and Chris Darden were fooling around and I don't believe that for a minute, although I might have read that wrong, my viewing buddy agreed with me they made it seem like they were more than working together. And from all accounts, they didn't do more than work together but who knows at this point if they are telling the truth about anything. I didn't love Chris Darden's book but he seems like a very moral man and his word I'd take.

Who knows,y'all. I'm not happy with any of this. the more I watch it the more angry I get that there has been no justice for Ron and Nicole.

Here's a link to the show's official site and OJ's Wiki page.       evileye

I was waiting for them to come back with some results on that knife they found on the Rockingham property of OJ's former home before I posted anything and now they have analyzed the knife and no findings this far shows it could be related to the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.

This isn't a giant surprise, honestly. It was described as a pocked sized folding buck knife, and the knife used in the crime has been speculated to be a long, serrated knife. This whole thing is absolutely ridiculous. Great job LAPD. No wonder the citizens of your town have so much faith in you.

Marcia Clark gave Dateline an interview in which she said that in the wake of all the police shootings and the racial mistrust that had been exposed, had the trial been held today, in her opinion, it would have resulted in a hung jury.

I have to admit I SO did not see this one coming. I love a good smack in the face every so often to wake my ass up. This one was long overdue. Good stuff man.  biggrin

ID [Investigation Discovery], the channel that produces and airs a lot of true crime documentaries and mini-series has announced the production of a new "docu-series" based on the William Dear book, "OJ Simpson Is Innocent And I Can Prove It", which will attempt to show that Simpson is innocent. The six part series, titled,"Hard Evidence:OJ Is Innocent" will re-investigate the case from beginning to end. Produced and narrated by Martin Sheen, he speculates that new evidence may lead to a new trial.

OKAY! Now...if you've read that book [or this long thread] you'll know the basis of that book is that Jason Simpson, OJ's son is the one who killed Nicole and Ron Goldman, not OJ. I wish someone could take a picture of my face. I'm sure I look like a total idiot LOL This is really going to be good. Are they going to come right out and accuse Jason? What does OJ think of all this?! No, sincerely I really want to hear this, damn it! After years of these posts and hate mail about how biased I am, and the nonsense of the original decision [NOT MINE!] to post the crime scene photos, this really has my full attention. Nobody has ever been held responsible for these murders and I think that's why I get so heated about it all. No justice for Ron and Nicole! Wrong answer! Yes, I admit I believe OJ did it. but if I was wrong, I'd be the first one to admit it.

Get in the ring,y'all. This is going to be something to watch.

Tonight [4-5-2016] was the last episode in the mini-series, "The People Vs. OJ Simpson" and while many of us didn't get closure since no one ever was held accountable for the murders, it wasn't too horrible. Was I mad at the end? Yeah, a little. The actress playing Marcia Clark [Sarah Paulson] really summed the whole thing up well, saying she was ashamed because, presumably, the nation was looking at her and Chris Darden to hold OJ responsible and the jury basically yanked the whole thing out of their hands and said, hell no you're not. This guy's going to walk for this. Many trials that are sequestered are found not guilty because the jury isn't hearing the things that we, the general public are hearing. They can't read the paper or watch the news. And that jury was under what amounts to house arrest for what? Eight months? Hell yeah I'd be mad! Like, did they do it just to vent their anger at being cooped up in there and subjected to that nonsense as some of you charming people have suggested in your comments? Could be.

The thing that gets me, and I don't know how in the holy hell they could have done it, but they ignored or just plain overlooked the staggering amount of DNA evidence. The blood on OJ's socks had a 1 in 21 billion chance of being anyone except his or Nicole's. Blood from the glove found at Rockingham had only a 1 in 141 billion chance of belonging to anyone OTHER than Ron Goldman. Come on now people. Seriously?! There's more but y'all know all this already. Could have this been planted by the evil and racist Mark Furhman? Could be.

Anything's possible and this series was a carnival of speculation and misinformation for a generation that wasn't there to see how tragically, pathetically the LAPD and the DA's office failed.

In the end, they had a little "where are they now?" kind of thing and it showed everyone and said what they went on to do. Lastly, they showed two photos of the victims of the brutality of this absolutely nightmarish crime. Finally, they remembered what this whole thing was about.

RIP Nicole Brown Simpson

RIP Ronald Lyle Goldman

I read something interesting. On June 11, ABC and ESPN will broadcast a documentary titled, "O.J.: Made In America". This is a 5 episode, 7 hour piece and of course I'll be watching because, well, that's my jam. But also because it feels like unfinished business when someone has their life cruelly ripped away from them and no one is made to answer for it. It happens far too often, but this has been stuck in my craw for many reasons, not the least of which is that O.J. walked and it seemed like it  was all a big fat joke to him.

But I digress. The reviewer of this piece breaks the series down a bit more and places it higher on the scale than Toobins's "The People VS O.J. Simpson". The sociological implications that lead to not only the anatomy of this crime, but the not guilty verdict as well are better served and compares Simpson to the darker side of the tales of Horatio Alger, the American dream, brought crashing down from morn to night.

Excellent review. Come watch this with me and we'll hash this out.....again.    evileye

It took me a minute to finally watch ESPN's 30 For 30 series "OJ:Made in America" and this is the documentary that FX wish they would have made. This is the one we all should have been watching, and I wish like hell everyone who got all heated, me included, had skipped "The People Vs.OJ Simpson". It's really quite stunning.

Set in 5 parts, each about an hour and a half long, it starts with not the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, but the beating of Los Angeles resident Rodney King. For a minute, if you aren't familliar with that story, you kind of think, what the hell? but it becomes glaringly clear that it has everything to do with the story of how OJ walked for 2 capital murder charges.

It takes us through OJ's early years and and football career, and show short interviews with him and his first wife Margurite. Not much is ever said about her, and even briefly as she is shown, I was quite curious about her. He brags he'll one day become famous and he at least got that right but I doubt he at the time realized what fame would find him doing or becoming. I learned a few things I didn't know, he was huge in the advertising game, with contracts for Chevrolet and RC cola, and also appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone. [Just goes to show you that mag will put anyone on the cover.]

He met an 18 year old Nicole, while still married to his first wife and they went on to have 15 years together before splitting very acrimoniously. Sadly, it is clearly linked to her murder that her freedom was hard won and she paid for it with her life. OJ was really the only suspect and the LAPD led by Daryl Gates made that clear from the beginning. Between Gil Garcetti and Mark Furhman, there was no room for non believers. The trial was called "the trial of the century" and the jury sequestered. Nicole had a safe deposit box with photos of herself in it with bruises from beatings she claimed were from OJ. There was blood and DNA evidence. And for the first time I saw jurors that were interviewed for this. And they were adamant that it was "90% payback for Rodney King" One actually said that "Back then, we took care of our own. Now days, you're on your own." One juror was later found to have been a member of the Black Panthers in his youth.

Nobody wanted it to be about race. But if you think it wasn't, you clearly are fooling yourself. One of OJ's legal team, Robert Shapiro said in an interview with Barbara Walters, that not only was it about race, he compared it to a deck of cards that they stacked and pulled from the bottom of the deck. I just sat there with my mouth open. The overt racism of Daryl Gates and his goon squad is hard to ignore in the face of comments made by OJ himself,"I'm not black, I'm OJ". It goes into the whole reason why OJ moved to Florida, and how he wound up in prison in Nevada, something I was not very educated about and how that trial was concluded 33 years to the day that OJ was acquitted for double homicide.  Coincidence? You be the judge.

I saw this yesterday. Micheal Moore, the director of "Bowling For Columbine" and "Farenheit 9/11" did an interview with OJ Simpson on Seth Meyers and this link has some video for you.

I could say a lot of things but for once, I'll leave you to it. I think it speaks for itself.

Link with video.

Hello Bronco, it's my prediction within 1 year, Jason Lamar Simpson will be indicted for the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Lyle Goldman.  The only thing to prevent this from happening is LAPD's reluctance from having the courage to admit they were wrong and Johnny Cochran was right when he deemed this case as a rush to judgement.

Keep that fire alive Bronco.
