Steubingville Rape Crew Case:Even Worse Than The Title Suggests

You know, these days I read the news and it happens a lot....I see something so messed up I can't absorb it right away and I walk around for the rest of the day with the WTFF look on my face. This is one of these things.

Steubingville,Ohio is one of those small towns where come football season everyone drinks in the crisp fall air,the cheerleaders are excited for the new season and everyone is happy. Kind of a Friday Night Lights in real life. Football is a big ass deal and there's nothing wrong with that if it is a positive and bonding experiance. But when athletes are accused of getting preferential treatment so they don't lose their team status, you have to wonder....what's up with that? On August 22,2012 a student was allegedly repeately sexually assaulted by several members of the football team who are now being called the "Steubinville Rape Crew" as has been reported on Twitter by the website Anynomous.Photos of her literally being carried from party to party and being raped over and over were taken of her,so unconsious that she appeared to be dead. She says she has no recollection of any of the events of that night. God be with her.

Two teens have been charged in connection with this case based on a 12 minute video [which at one point was claimed not to have existed]  of Trenton Mayes and Ma'lik Richmond, both 16 and charged as juviniles. On top of all that, the clip was posted on You Tube of the teens that were there and presumably participated in the assault joking about the rape, saying how funny it was,how dead she looked, how they violated her and laughing hysterically. As I'm sure you have guessed by now,it has gone viral and people are mad. REALLY mad.

They need to be charged as adults. They need to be thrown in prison,in general population. You want rape? I vote to give them it. I am providing some links. Some have the video, some have photos. WARNING: this is so disturbing I only sat through 3:10 minutes of these animals going all chuckleface about what they did. Just unbelievable. I call out the parents of these "children" to come forward and comment. And congrats to Anynomous who through their efforts are leaders in the age of a digital revolution.

These douche canoes are why abortion should be kept legal. If these pricks had been aborted, the world would be a better place.

Thanks for the love/hate mail you guys. I made you think and I love it when that happens. Just a few tidbits from the collective:

*You have to be kidding me.They are kids! Adult incarceration isn't going to do anything but ruin their lives.

*Right on! Go get 'em Annarocket!

*Who is dumb enough to tape and post a video like that? [answer:high school kids with a lack of morals]

*The victim is getting raped over and over the more this is amped up in the media.

*These guys will never get a fair trial.

*Hey Anna, who put you in charge? [answer:nobody, and trust me,that's a good thing.]

*I totally agree with you,Anna. This is really bad. I want to hear from the parents as well!

It's made the front page of MSNBC now and I haven't looked at my Twitter feed today, been super busy so we'll see what kind of hate/love I get there. Here's the MSNBC link:

You hit the nail on the head,Sweetheart. I was discussing this with someone and like Columbine,we've taught our kids to live in the digital age. Computers, cell phones, video that they can load that can go viral, etc. Kids are tech savvy and at Columbine, one of the things that was a problem during the incident, was that kids were using their cell phones to call outside lines, like CNN,and Mom and Dad [understandible] jamming up lines and causeing problems for law inforcement.

I myself have run into issuses with putting things on the internet that just shouldn't be there. The Federal Communication Act CYA's me but people get mad. REALLY mad.And now we're back to Stubeingville.

The video, like I said, was about 13 minutes long and I watched about 3:30 of it. What I saw was mostly the camera on one kid with others adding ambient dialog to his horrifically morbid jokes about how "dead" the victim appeared. I also saw the photos of the perps carrying the victim around, her completely unconcious. Now,I like to think of myself as hardcore. And if you hang with me you're hangin with the hardcore. What a JOKE. This was just puke worthy. I couldn't listen to this kid saying how DEAD she looked and making jokes in the "Your Momma" style.Such as,"She was so dead...." etc.. At one point a kid off camera said loudly,"What is WRONG with you?!" and I just shut it down. I'd seen enough. I'm sure this isn't over and we'll keep y'all up to date. But damn, man. What the hell is wrong with our youth?

Email....*sigh*

Dear Annarocket,

In light of being fair, might you post a link with more information that suggests this is not a horrible crime-young-woman-was-violated-let's-string-those-little-deviants-up?

Evan James Holworthy,West Memphis AR

West Memphis,eh? We'll have to have a chat about that some day but since you're asking so nice and all......sorry if I seem sarcastic. This just really sucks all the way around. Thanks for the cool email,I thought I'd just print the relevant part. You know,it's free to register so you can post your thoughts and not have to email a moderator. But I thank you for your time and opinion.

This gets worse every time I look at it and if justice isn't done in this case,I will be suprised if nothing bad happens to the kids/adults involved. Yes,you heard me right,ADULTS involved. You make an excuse for a kid,you are responsible for what happened. This is stunningly up in just about every way I can think of and believe me when I say I want to stop thinking about it pretty badly. Unfortunately that is not an option at this point.

This link will take you to the site where photos and video are posted of the attack scene, the video of the kids discussing the attack and the personal email account of an adult who runs a fan website for the Big Red football team which was hacked and was found to have pornography of young women suspected to be high school students. You are looking at your own risk, some of it might be offensive.

www.LocalLinks.me This is the link to the home page which is being updated often. I applaud these people, they have really put together an awesome narrative of what allegedly happened in an excellent forum and cohesive timeline. Show 'em some love

Email....this made me mad as hell.

Dear Annarocket,

Why are you saying "what allegedly happened"? These little good for nothing did something horible and you are making excuses for them.

Penny D.,Nashville

What the did you just say to me? I most certainly am not giving them asylum, nor making excuses for them you need to go back and read the whole thread to get the gist of how I feel about this. In this country, the Constitution says you are innocent untill proven guilty and hence, the word,"allegedly".In my mind and from what I have seen they look hella guilty BUT they are INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY much to my irritation. I suggest you read this document and educate yourself with the law before you come in here and start some with me.

This isn't over. I did stop thinking about it everyday, but it was still on my mind. Wondered when they were gonna start doing something about it,it got so much media attention it rode the town, the team, the coach the parents, etc like the school mascot that as one link says,"shoots fire from it's mouth when the team scores".

Really? After all this I want to deface that stupid flaming horse and really badly. Yeah,I know that's immature and lame and criminal so save your moral indignation for someone else.

I think they should be charged as adults. This is not a crime that should be taken lightly. To give them status as minors, the guidelines for sentancing will be so much lighter and I disagree with the opinion that adult punishment will ruin their lives. What about the victim's life? Should we not be taking that into consideration? What about the kids who stood and did nothing? Should we not make them responsible for not reporting what happened? It never occured to them that rape was taking place? What did they do? Took out their cell phones and proceeded to capture the moment. Did their parents not teach them what rape was and that it was wrong?

Kids today think they are invincible, and rule the world. And why shouldn't they? Corporal punishment is all but non existent in schools now (at least where I live.) If a kid gets a bad grade at school, it's the teacher that gets yelled at, not the student. If a kid misbehaves, parents blame the media, their friends, their video games. Parents never hold themselves or their children responsible for anything anymore, it's always someone else's fault, or the fault of an outside influence. Kids get a trophy just for joining a team these days... not actually doing anything to earn that trophy. We have taken responsibility, ambition, discipline and hard work away from our children and in return given them political correctness, and a lack of morals and ethics. How are they supposed to know the difference anymore between right and wrong when we don't make them work for anything, and try to justifiy or explain their bad behavior instead of punishing them?

Yes, these kids should be charged as adults. Kids need to be sent a message that all actions have consequences. If you do something wrong, you pay for it. Most kids have no boundaries or stability in their homes anymore. In trying to make the world a cleaner, safer, happier, nicer, more fair, all hearts and sunshine and flowers place for them, we've turned our kids into mindless beings who have no compassion, empathy, no sense of responsibility, no ambition, and who could basically care less about anything. We screwed up big time, and now we're having to pay for it by what kids are doing today. And what are kids doing today some of you ask? Let's see, they fight, rape, and kill each other, and put it on any social media website they can find. Yeah, what a bang up job we've done in raising the next generation.

While I agree with my wingman Navywife,I have to say I didn't raise my kid for a planet of shiny happy people. If I had she would have disrespected me and called me a hypocrite and a liar when she got old enough to see what a mess society has become.

I don't blame the young lady for anything other than bad judgement. She didn't even live in Steubingville. She was a county away in West VA. The whole concept that all these kids could stand by and just kind of think,"This is not my problem" really bothers me. The coach is a real ball buster. I have another link, this coming from the New York Times. Exceptional reporting,a must read. And a photo of that stupid horse.

The trial starts today. And I can't for the life of me figure out how some people think that this didn't happen, or that it's not as bad as it seems. Folks, the rape itself is right there on pictures and video. How much more solid proof do you need? I will say this though, and I'm sure I'll get bashed for it, but who gives a crap? Not me. Women have got to stop putting themselves in the position for trouble in the first place. Take affirmative action and learn to protect yourselves... and don't automatically assume that every guy in the room is your new best friend. Rape is never the victim's fault... but is preventable in so many instances by using a little common sense and not allowing yourself to get into a situation where you're in trouble in the first place.

Another aspect I find very troubiling... this all started with a party at an assistant football coach's house. Where the heck was he when this party was going on at his house? Believe you me, I have a teenager, and I know how they are. I also know there's no way in hell my kid will ever get away with throwing a party at my house unbeknownst to myself and her dad. Because if we happen to not be home at the time, our nosy neighbors sure are, and they will have no problem breaking up the party and contacting me and my hubby, as well as the cops, asap. I also am a very interferring, nosy mother. If my kid says she's going to a party (and so far, she's not been allowed to attend any high school parties), believe you me, hubby and I will have NO PROBLEM AT ALL "dropping by" said party to check on things. I find it very odd that kids today are so closely monitored when they're little, and yet when they become teenagers, they're hardly monitored at all. That's when they need the most monitoring!

Unfortunately, these kind of cases are becoming more and more common. I'll have to find the link for it, but there was a case exactly like this, I believe in some little town in California recently. Totally different outcome unfortunately. The rapists (the football Gods of the high school) got off scot free, the victim started being harassed so much and receiving death threats, that she finally wound up committing suicide. A common factor here is that these type of partes are booze soaked and everyone gets totally out of control.

PARENTS: TEACH YOUR SONS IT IS NOT OK TO FORCE THEMSELVES ON VULNERABLE WOMEN. TEACH YOUR DAUGHTERS NOT TO GET THEMSELVES IN THOSE TYPE OF VULNERABLE SITUATIONS.... AND ABOVE ALL, TEACH THEM SOME RESPONSIBILITY ABOUT ALCOHOL!!!!!

It's unfortunate the lesson has come with such a pricetag at so many.

*When a girl says "No" if you proceed in any way it is rape, a possible felony act never mind an act of violation and aggression

*If you turn your head and do not report what you witness, you are complicit

*Teach your children about the responsibility of alcohol and the law

*Bad taste and the digital age can ruin your life [Micheal Nodianos]

And those are facts and considered to be the law of the land and we haven't touched all the far reaching complications in all this. Sad and sick in so many ways.

20/20 did a good piece on this, with good interviews before the boys were tried and sentenced. Take a look and see if it doesn't  give you some clarity. If you don't go to the piece,It is ABC's 20/20 for the week ending Friday March 8,2013.

Today I ran across this item dated January 13, 2015. It reports that the Steubingville superintendent of schools,  Mike McVeigh resigned from his job after being accused of interfering in the investigation of the rape of a 16 year old girl by 2 football players in 2012.

The stare's attorney general office agreed to drop all charges against McVeigh if he left his job, which included wiping computer hard drives, erasing emails to conceal evidence and lying to investigators to protect the two students being charged with rape.

I remember how mad this made me! The pictures and video were so gross. I couldn't get past how careless these kids seemed to be and how nonchalant their attitudes were. Like, this isn't a big deal, y'all are overreacting. Some of the kids I talked to told me I overreact to stuff like this all the time LOL but I guess the thing that bothered me the most was that the adults were involved. The next generation has access to things I never had [what the hell with the Snapchat app?] and of course that makes a difference but morals and values do not. Sexual violence is something we need to educate our kids about. I wondered if the town had changed and did a little digging to see if something good had happened in the wake of all of this. According to the second link I'm going to post, it hasn't.

What in the hell with this again. I don't think this will ever stop making me mad. Seriously.

So...this whole thing was pretty much glazed over, or so I thought, the two that were found guilty of raping the young woman in question recieved 1 and 2 year sentances in a juvenile detention facility. So that's the end of it right?

Um, no. It isn't. In December of 2012, a man by the name of Derec Lostutter had his home raided *two* years after the FBI concluded that he was responsible for hacking into the website of Steubingville's football team's coach and assistant coach, and threatened to release information about them and the students who posted video of the attack on social media. He pled guilty to helping to plot a campaign to raise awareness of the rape and the phenominal coverup by the Stubingville football program and staff, as well as lying to the FBI when initally questioned. He now  faces more time behind bars than either of the rapists.

What in the . Really? How is that even possible? I guess if someone hacked into my crap and dragged out what I wouldn't want all over the media [It isn't worth trying, don't waste your time] I'd want the FBI to get all hot and biscuit about it too. However I don't have pictures of teenage girls using the toilet or being raped in my collective trash, both of which were in the assistant football coach's email. [The coach later said the girls were all age 18.]I find it kind of hard to believe exposing the whole Stubingville thing would require punishment more harsh than what the two rapists recieved. It's a little more  complicated than that but I don't think any of this has had justice served in any way at all.
