Captivated:The Trials Of Pamela Smart

Summer...a good time to sit around, watch documentaries on your jacked up company credit card on HBO Go and wait till the sun goes down to look for serious mischief

Today let's explore Captivated:The trials of Pamela Smart. Now, I know what you guys are thinking: what company credit card?! I'm not one to tell tales but I'm going to cancel the subscription before I get in trouble for it. Still, I'm going to get as much milage out of it as I can! And damn was this one worth the price of admission.

Made after Pamela was incarcerated at Bedford Hills Correctional in New York, and before Billy Flynn was released on parole, it really digs deep into the first trial covered live on television. I wasn't well into my career as a crime solving smart ass at the time and I barely remember buying the now notorious trade paperback, "Teach Me To Kill", by Stephen Sawaiki [ISBN: 0380766493] referred to in this film as "The Bible". I still have mine, which is why I know the ISBN #! Anyway, Pam comes out like...man! I didn't do it! I know how idiotically simplistic that sounds but it's true. She tries to come across as sophisticated and after decades in prison, which she really believes she's going to walk away from, in the early days, she's not convincing. AT ALL.

During the trial, they play video of her listening to audio of her student intern Cecelia Pierce talking on the phone with her about "being sent to the slammer for the rest of her life" and she really is her own worst enemy. The 3 boys who were charged and convicted with her, Billy Flynn, Pete Randall and JR Lattime have all been paroled but she's never getting out unless by special dispensation or pardon and I highly doubt that's going to happen.

If you've been around long enough to remember this whole circus, give it a spin. Thanks for the memories, Pam. If you're new to the life of crime, check this chick and her teen age thugs for hire a go. They are the originators of the term, "Hot For Teacher".

Who wants to hit the pool? Margarita? Beer? Both?
