Versace V. Cunanan: The Murder Of An Empire

It looks like the franchise that brought us "The People Vs. OJ Simpson" have the story of Andrew Cunanan the serial murderer who killed 5 people, most notably designer to the elite, Gianni Versace and was on the FBI's 10 most wanted list.

FX really shot their load when this whole OJ thing happened. That series got more peanut butter action than a dog's mouth, y'all. Cunanan was 27 while Versace was 50 and living in Miami Beach. ABC's 20/20 is all new from the Casa Casuarina where Versace was living with his partner, Andrew D'Amico. Head on over to Twitter [@annarocket] and chat some crime with us or come back after the show. Give ABC some

There were people complaining yesterday that this was an old story and it didn't need to be told again. I disagree completely. I never covered this [there's only so much crime I can take LMAO] and there was so much I didn't know! First, I didn't realize it's been 20 years since this happened. I remember I was occupied with something else and this just passed me by. From what I saw on Twitter the house, if you want to call it that, has been turned into a kind of combination showplace, with a restaurant, and you can stay in Versace's room. It's a hardcore mansion, with elegant style and opulence. I'd love to see it. I've never been to Florida.

Andrew Cunanan's brother and sister have old interviews from back in the day and those are honestly really sad. They have little but their childhood memories of their little brother and although people usually want to blame someone, you can't blame the family, which they do in the form of his father. Supposedly a degenerate gambler who abandoned the family, some say his defection was partly to blame for Andrew's penchant for older men with fat wallets and a disdain for anything but the very best.

I was super glued to this episode of 20/20!! I can't believe I wasn't all over this back in the day, but I'm hooked now.

American Crime Story, I'm eyeballing y'all.

So stoked!!! I'd been looking for this magazine literally, for weeks, my frustration growing. I finally decided to hang it up but then I was mooching off my sister [it's the tacos, y'all. Don't judge.] and she had a copy of the Entertainment Weekly with the cast of ACS on the cover, with Penelope Cruz as Donatella Versace, and Ricky Martin as Versace's long time companion, Anthony D'Amato.

I'm way more interested in this season of ACS because there is no giant cliff of unresolved feelings, like there was with OJ. Yeah he was found not guilty. But no one has been held responsible for the deaths of Ron and Nicole, and there's this nagging feeling somewhere inside you, deep down, that damn clown has just tried to play you out. The jury says not guilty. And as bitter a pill as it is, we have to swallow it. This season, I presume will explore a different kind of crime. There will be some ugly things and some sad and needless deaths. And we all know what happened to Cunanan! But I think this is gonna be really interesting and hopefully make a statement on the culture of excess.

Here's a random link about this season of ACS.

Do any of you guys remember that old show The E True Hollywood Story?

I used to LOVE this show! I'd watch it no matter who they were doing. And while I can't sleep tonight, I found this old one on the life of Gianni Versace. Really, really interesting, lots of stuff I didn't know and the beautiful clothing....I'll try and find one tomorrow that covers the crime a bit more.

RIP Gianni

They put up a new trailer for ACS's next season which is....I'm not trying to be smart assed but it's literally 10 seconds long and shows nothing but a bag [body? luggage?] being zipped and it says "Versace".

Too lame to link but if you care...it's out there.....evileye
