LAPD Detective Fatally Shoots Herself In Sheriff's Departmnent Lobby

This strikes me as both sad and angry at the same time.

A Los Angeles Detective of the LAPD Narcotics and Gang Squad killed herself with a shot to the head in the lobby of the sherriff station where she went to turn in personal belongings.

A 19 year veteran of the force,Susan J. Clemmens was a witness for the defense in the infamous 1991 beating of Rodney King.

It is tragic this officer didn't have the proper counseling and supervision from her superiors, and for that she  took her life and that is sad. On the other hand, she chose to kill herself in a federal building,a place where we the people have the inaliable right to be protected, and that makes me angry.       evileye

I can really understand the pressure this officer must have been under.

I work in a correctional setting, and although I am the senior officer on our shift, the men on the shift are such robocops that I'm choking on the testosterone.  Last night a Sheriff's officer came into the facility and started berating an inmate, calling him "retarded" and asking him if he had Downs syndrome.  Another inmate said, "Hey that's not cool.  I have a nephew who has Downs syndrome."  The Sheriff's officer pulled his taser and drew a bead on the inmate that spoke out.  Then turned to me and hollered, "What kind of place are you running here?"  I was so livid I could have burst!  All my fellow male officers jumped right in and supported this jerk.  Made me want to walk off the shift.

It really is hard for females in this line of work.  Some of my male co-workers are so crude and nasty that I've had to file complaints...but nothing is ever done.  It's depressing.

I have a tremoundous respect for anyone in the corrections field who tries to do the right thing. I have several in my family and I try to remember,it's not everyone that's a jerk, and you just proved it.

Justice Junction salutes you!        evileye

Ahhh, thanks Anna.  This is a second career for me.  I have been a psychologist for 20 years, but when I left my last job, I couldn't find a job anywhere.  I was out of work for eleven months.  I've always been interested in criminal justice, so I applied to be a corrections worker in a community corrections setting.  I think my background helps me cope with the stress, and I have  really learned a lot from the inmates.  I have worked with victims of violent crimes since 1984, so this is a real turn-around for me.  I've learned that many of the folks we serve will probably spend their lives in one correctional facility or another.  But some of them are good people who got caught up in bad things, and this is the first time they've been locked up.  The personalities and personal stories are really interesting, and frankly, I trust the clients more than I do some of my co-workers.  no

Johnny Cash once said,"To be an honest man sometimes you live outside the law".

And that's why I'd trust a good person who made one mistake than someone in a position of power wanting to shove that power down my throat.

It is so much easier to be a profiler,an author and an all around smartass. I couldn't do what you do.   evileye
