Today marks the 11th anniversary of the vicious attack on PFC. Barry Winchell, who succumbed to his inujries the next day, back in 1999. While the rest of us were celebrating our freedom that 4th of July weekend, Barry was beaten, and murdered, and betrayed by the US Army.
The suspects were arrested, tried, and convicted. However, justice was not served in this case. Barry's case is a hearbtreaking story of why "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" won't work, and how his fellow brothers in arms not only turned against him based on RUMORS (not any facts), but refused to help him during the actual attack (while he was brutally beaten with a baseball bat by a fellow US Army soldier, several other soldiers just stood around, watching the attack.)
