1996. Kimberly Medina was a young mother, to two adorable toddler girls who looked just like her. Married to a very handsome, but very dangerous man. This is a tragic case that involves domestic violence, child abuse, 2 murders (one of the murder victims was a baby), and to this day is still haunting Kimberly's family. They need justice, and they need closure.
Michael Medina was a handsome man, with a very powerful temper. He had a loving wife, and two adorable daughters. But, that wasn't enough. One cold Oct night in 1996,, after a fight with his wife Kimberly, he drove her and their toddler daughters to a deserted field. He argued with her, accusing her of cheating on him. He then beat her, nearly to death, with a baseball bat. Then he buried her alive. Michael has said he could hear Kimberly moaning even after she was inside the grave he dug for her. Kimberly was reported missing, with Michael claiming that she disappeared after going to a gas station to buy some cigarettes.
Fast foreward a few years and Michael has moved on, and now has an infant son with his common law wife, along with the two daughters he had with Kimberly. Like his marriage failed, his relationship with his girlfriend failed as well once she saw his violent temper. During a fight with his girlfriend, Michael confessed to killing Kimberly, and burying her alive, but didn't say where he had buried her. Michael threatened to kill his baby boy, after his girlfriend told him she was leaving him. After raping her all that night, Michael allowed his girlfriend to leave the house the next day for a short while. She told her aunt what was happening and they called the police. True to his word, Michael murdered his own son after learning the police were coming. He drove his daughters and infant son to yet another field, then told his daughters to hug their baby brother goodbye, that they wouldn't see him for a long time. Then he told them to go find a phone and to call their uncle for a ride home. He also told them, chillingly, not to look behind them as they left the field. The police discovered little Degan's body several hours later. His father had drowned him in a sewer.
Michael Medina is now locked up, serving a 48 year prison sentence, though not on murder charges. He plead down to child abuse that resulted in the death of his son. His two daughters are being raised by his former girlfriend, and have become beautiful, educated, well spoken young women. However, Kimberly's case is still open, and so far, no charges have been filed. Her family is desperately seeking the truth, justice, and closure. But thru all this tragedy one question still haunts Kimberly's parents, siblings, daughters, and even her husband's former girlfriend, and it's a question only Michael can answer, a question that so far, he refuses to answer: Where is Kimberly?
I happen to be watching the Dr. Phil show (I rarely ever watch that show) with a friend the other day, and Kimberly's story was featured. While my heart always goes out to the victims and their families, this story moved me more than any other story has. The further the show got into this story, the more I cried. I never cry from watching tv. Kimberly was only 19 when she was murdered. I've never seen a man who is consumed with pure evil the way Michael Medina is. This is probably the most heartbreaking case I've heard of.
