An ex Marine was found guilty yesterday of the brutal murder of his fellow marine back in 2007. And while I'm certain he is involved in her murder, I'm not so certain that he is in fact her killer.
I'm certain he's involved in her murder, otherwise, why would he have gone AWOL and fled to Mexico when he learned he was going to be arrested for her murder? However, there is one big flaw in the prosecution's theory: Cesar Laurean's DNA WAS NOT FOUND on the murder weapon. However, his wife's DNA WAS FOUND on the murder weapon. Does the wife have a motive for murdering her husband's fellow marine? You bet she does. Her husband had an affair with his fellow Marine, Maria Lauterbach (Maria claimed at first that she had been raped by Laurean and that the rape resulted in her pregnancy. She was 8 months pregnant at the time she died. However, she also claimed to others that the sex was consentual, not rape, and DNA tests have proved that Laurean was not the father of the baby she was carrying. She was known to have a mental illness, and to be a compulsive liar. This of course doesn't justify her being murdered, nothing does.) I find it very strange however that while Laurean's wife's DNA was found on the murder weapon, police have said she is in no way connected to the crime.
I think this was a rush to judgement because pregnant Marine disappeared and was later found murdered, and of course, society demands justice when a pregnant woman, and a servicemember, is murdered. But I also believe her real killer got off scott free.
