So for those that may not remember who Diane Downs is, or what she did- in the 1980's Diane Downs rushed her three young children to the hospital claiming they had been carjacked, and that the carjacker has shot them. Upon arrival, it was determined one of the children was DOA, and the other 2 were critical. Over the investigation, it was determined that Diane had infact shot her children, not a carjacker, so she would be rid of the children and be with her married lover. She was tried, and convicted and sentenced to life. Over the course of the trial, Diane became pregnant with her 4th child. Diane has given several different stories as to the identify of the father. Diane gave birth to a baby girl, which was pomptly taken from her and put up for adoption. Many people wondered whatever happened to that baby girl. She is all grown up now. She was adopted by a loving family, and had the perfect life, until she discovered who her birth mother was. Finding that she was the product of a child killer sent her into a major identity crisis, and for a while, she led a troubled life. She is now a mother herself, and is in college, and hopes to attend med school someday. She did contact Diane Downs briefly thru letters, but, ended the correspondence after realizing what a monster her biological mother is. Diane Downs continues to this day to proclaim her innocence, even though she has changed her story dozens of times as to what exactly happened the night her 3 little children were shot, and even though one of her other daughter's admitted in open court that it was her mother that shot all 3 children. Diane's 2 children who survived the shooting were adopted by the prosecutor, and both are college graduates with good stable lives now, although her son is still paralyzed from the shooting.
There is some controversy surrounding the baby that was given up for adoption. Diane's children who survived the shooting have chosen to remain out of the spotlight. They don't do interviews, and live anonymous lives. The daughter she gave up for adoption however has granted several interviews, and many feel she is just trying to cash in on her mother's fame. Her daughter that was adopted didn't have to live thru the shooting, she was born after it all happened. Yet he has made some claims in the press that she's just as traumatized as her half siblings, which has angered many who remember the shooting and the trial. Unlike her half siblings, she grew up in a loving, stable home, and didn't have any problems until she discovered her biological mother was Diane Downs. Granted, I know it can't be an easy thing to find out that your birth mother is a notorious child killer, yet at the same time, I don't see how she can claim she's just as traumatized as her half siblings. She blamed the troubled life she led as a teenager on the stress of having Diane Downs for her biological mother. And while she has straightened her life out now, I don't really understand why she has come forward revealing who she is, especially after her adoptive family tried so hard to protect her identity. She claims it's to help people in situations like hers.

To whom is she referring?I'm sorry but that's just DUMB.Who's biological mother is a multiple killer of her children and then goes on to talk about about it to "HELP" victims in the same situation?

Come on! Most mother's that kill [Susan Smith,Andrea Yates] don't leave behind children as witnesses to testify against them. Diane Downs was the enigma:on trial for the attemped murder of two of the three children she tried to kill and pregnant with her fourth. There is,what 1% of serial killers in that situatuon? Has anyone ever heard of this happening of this ever? Maybe she's refering to helping to the offspring of parents who are serial killers in general? Either way,I'm not buying it.She's trotting out her unique and marketible story because she knows that Diane Downs name will sell in crime circles.I recently was channel surfling and I saw her being interviewed.
She was talking about how when she found out Diane was her mother she went all ape crap crazy and acted out bla bla bla bla and then finally got her life together.
Don't get me wrong.I wish he no ill will.But why in the heck anyone would want to be telling anyone [other than a parole board saying this chick is as crazy as a silverback gorilla] that Diane Downs is my mother is so far beyond me,it literally blows my mind. It would seem to me money would be her only real motivation. HOWEVER!!! I have never been in a situation like this,so this is one person's opinion,and nothing more.
I agree Anna. If I had a psycho mother who was a child killer, I sure as hell wouldn't be granting interviews about it. I wouldn't want anyone to know. I agree with you also as to wondering whom she is trying to help? I mean don't get me wrong, I feel bad for what she went thru after learning who her bio mom was, and I'm glad that she's getting her life straightened out, but it just makes no sense to me that she wants to publicly come out about who her biological mother is.
