The Murder of Michael Golub

Update... Michael still remains officially missing... Shannon and Chad Floyd skipped town as soon as the second trial ended in a hung jury, and moved to Burlington, CO. Shannon has also flat out refused to let any of Michael's family have any contact with or see the son that she and Michael shared. Michael's mother has unfortunately passed, going to her grave without ever knowing what happened to her son. Prosecutores who originally were going to go after Shannon and Chad a 3rd time have sinced dropped all charges against them, and announced there would be no new charges filed unless more evidence was uncovered. Lesson learned: if you have money and power, you can easily get away with murder.

I saw this profiled on one of the news magagine shows.....wanna say Dateline.

But yeah,it made it seem like it was serious small town big money murder. It was messed up. I was like WTF? They made Shannon out to be quite the little wench,IMO.

And that's a real bummer about his Mom passing but you know, maybe she DOES know what happened.Maybe in her passing all faith and peace was restored. For her and her son.           evileye

I hope so... when I heard the evidence that was presented... I thought how the hell could the jury be hung with evidence like that? But when most of the town is connected to the family, either by being related to them or working for them... then of course there will be no conviction. I can't understand why they didn't try to get a change of venue for the second trial.

It was profiled on 48 Hours Mystery, before Mike's mom passed away.           evileye

If it's any consolation to you,Navy,I believe they are together now. Not that it really helps when you consider noone was prosecuted for his murder/disapearance.

And really,I mean,Chad and Shannon are estranged from each other,I learned in an email I got that I was asked not to re-print.They are hardly man and wife,as after they moved to Colorado, after the second trial,he went to work driving a truck cross country, leaving Shannon to deal with the kids alone. Not exactly the happily ever after anyone would wish for.

Also, someone asked me how I could be so sure that Mike was killed on Chad and Shannon's front porch. I think that the fact that Mike's blood being on the wood of the deck is one thing but the fact that the deck was freshly painted and the blood was found on the UNDERSIDE of the porch is pretty sound evidence. His blood would have no reason to be on her front porch, much less on the wooden and freshly painted underside of that wood.

That's just crazy, how could that be a coincidince? Maybe if that had been Mike and Shannon's home, but Mike never lived there. It was Chad and Shannon's home.   evileye

Totally agree on everything you said. Sad to know that people can get away with murder if they have enough money... and that no one ever bothered to consider the children's needs in this. I feel sorry for the kids involved having Shannon as a mother. Lord knows how screwed up those poor kids will turn out.

Why don't the police use a biological sensor to search wells in order to find proof of Mike Gollub's remains ?
It is time that the Floyd couple get a conviction.

Welcome to our board,I'm Anna, and Navywife and I moderate here.

That is an interesting question, one I hadn't considered. Since the two suspects have been tried and found not guilty, and there are no new leads in the case,I'm sure it is considered a cold case and sadly will be unsolved unless a body is recovered,or someone steps forward with new information. I know there is no statute of limitation on murder but there may be double jeopardy issues. Not 100% sure on that....anyone know?

Enjoy your stay with us,and please feel free to stay and chat on any criminal topic you like here on the board.      evileye

Dear Moderator,

Where did you hear that they found Mike's blood on the underside of the freshly painted porch of where Shannon and Chad Floyd lived?

Thanks,Marian Brennan,Boston MA

Hi Marian, welcome to our board.I'm annarocket [biggrin] Anna and Navywife are the mods here. Please make yourself at home.

The way I found that out was I saw the case profiled on 48 Hours Dateline and they were the ones who released that evidence to the public. I had no knowledge of that untill I saw it on tv.

I mean come on! If that's not a smoking gun along with the gunshot through their front window, then I don't know what is!

I'm sorry but,and this is again, just IMO,Those two [Chad and Shannon] had something to do with this. I really can't see any other way it could have happened!                evileye

Simple hon... they had the money and power to get away with it. Not to much the money as the power. family connections always help the bad folks get away with anything.. including murder.

That double jepoardy crap that applies to this is such a ration. All the facts point to the two of them [meaning Chad and Shannon as the murderers],the fact they were outsiders [Mike and his Mom] in such a small town really worked in their favor. I believe that the people who knew the old school families of the area really threw their wealth and influence behind the couple to get them out of the mess they were in.

Also the area they lived in what middle of nowhere it ever was, they could have gotten rid of that poor kid's body wherever they wanted. Just sad all the way around and pathetic, that some cases never see justice on this planet.                         evileye

I was watching this on TV, hear a familiar voice, and saw my old cheer coach on TV. Upon investigating more, my coach from high school, Crissy Golub is Michael's sister. This whole scenario is so sad, and I feel very sad for his family! I have faith that if this venue was changed, the verdict would have been as clear as it was to everyone else who speculates. I don't believe any state should have a law where only the defense can request a change of venue, because if a defendant has nothing to hide, let the venue change! disbelief

Hi Sararae,I'm Annarocket, head mod here along with my gal Friday,Navywife, and our admistrator Jillybean.Welcome to our forum.

From what I understand, scores of mail have come in about the case. The suprise is that Mike is innocent of what happened. The story pieced together from all our armchair dectives is that because of the family of Mike being new to town and was getting to have a baby due,his family was unhappy with it. He had the one son with his ex-girlfriend and one night when on his way to pick up the child when he disapeared, never to be found. His ex,Shannon Floyd at the home she shared with her new husband, and no one has seen nor heard of him since.        evileye

I was under the impression Mike was an only child. Anybody got a link up here in this crib? And link any published newspaper or mag articles, that would be way cool. I' like to profile this but there's so little info and I suspect I'd be ramming my head into the highest and hardest of brick walls. Ann Rule shoud hit this one up!!

From what 48 hours said both trials ended in a hung jury which means they can be retried.  Unless there was a third trial and I don't know about.

I know grandparents have rights to have visitation, I wonder if Mike's sister can work with an attorney to see if she does and fight Shannon for visitation rights for Mikie.

My hope is that more evidence is found and these two will be found guilty and go to jail for a very long time!!

I don't understand how one parent can take away the other parent. Yes there are days that my ex drives me crazy but I'd never and I mean NEVER harm him. It would devistate my kids to lose their father much less the more harm it would do if i were to be the one to do it.

Hi there jonjaktez,I'm annarocket, myself and Navywife are the maderators of the board here. I can definately empathise with the situation of being in a court case where a child is involved.Unfortunatly these kind of cases happen everyday and they won't end soon.

The case of Micheal Golub was never solved and sad as it is,I doubt it it ever will.Micheal's Mother has since passed away and the conclusin I reached from the 48 Hours show is that Shannon and her new husband had something do do worth it and are now as far as I know are living in Colorado.

Anyone have any other info?

This is really sad, I worked with Mike in 2004 for 6 months and he was an excellent chap. We had some fun times working all the hours in the day!

I only came across this whilst feeling sentimental and wondering what everyone at Kramer was up to and all I could find was stories relating to Mike's disappearance and suspected murder.

I hope they eventually get to the truth, but it doesn't look very likely.

Hello Annarocket

Very well thanks, It has been a while since I have been to the States, but I always look back on my time there fondly. All the people that worked at Kramers Harvesting were so nice. Its quite weird actually seeing Beau on the 48 hours show, the three of us drove from Johnson up to Bismark, ND. We stopped over in Murdo, SD and it was an 'interesting' evening. We met a bloke from Sheffield, England in a tiny bar. The barmaid recognised my accent and said 'there is someone else in here from England' there were only two other people in the place other than us! After about 4 beers it was if we were all long lost friends. Mike made us all drink some very strong beer from Montana, I think it was called 'moose drool'. I miss working with Mike and Beau, they were both top notch!

I've heard from more than one person that Mike was a very kind person and a hard worker. It's difficult to accept that he got no justice in the way we would have wanted, but I truely believe that everyone recieves karma for the deeds they are responsible for on earth. Whoever killed Mike will one day answer for it. If not here and now, then in the eyes of their maker.

England is an amazing place! I've only been to London but had a great time there and everyone was gracious and friendly to us! I'd love to go back someday!

Dear Annarocket,

Hi, I'm Marie and I write from Monaco. Thank you for writing your column here. It is very interesting. I read navywife's topic of the murder of Micheal Golub and I want to watch the television shows you are watching. Can you tell me how? You can see them on the internet?

Thank you! Can I keep writing to you at annarocket@hotmail.com?

Marie from France

Hi Marie, welcome to our board. Anyone can write me at that address, that's what it's for. I sent to instructions in your language how to register for the board.  evileye

Yeah,of course,  here's the link for the program we've seen, and it's great that you asked, because if anyone hasn't seen it or doesn't know where it is, here's where.........

48 Hours Mystery Justice In The Heartland   That was made with Mike's mother was still alive. She's since passed away, as far as I know. I could have sworn there was a Dateline episode on this crime but I'm still looking for that link. I'll post other stuff for you guys when I find it. Thanks for reading our board
