This is a memoir written by a woman who suffered a brutal attack in her early 20's... and how she managed to move on to the happy, successful life she has now.
What struck me was the story of her attack..and how no one helped her, despite her screams for help. A man followed her on a subway, and then followed her when she got off the subway. Followed her into an apt building and began stabbing her with a screwdriver. The woman had gone into that apt building to visit a friend... the friend heard the attack, ran out to see what was happening, then ran back inside her apt, slammed and locked the door, leaving her friend helpless. She also did not call 911, knowing full well the entire sime she spent hiding in her apt her friend was being brutally attacked. Someone else finally called 911, help arrived, and the man was caught, tried, and convicted of attempted murder.
So the question is what would you do, if you saw a person being attacked, whether it was a friend or not? Would you stand idly by or would you help in some way, even if it was to only call 911?
