Fullerton, California- A Huntington Beach woman was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter after her vehicle collided with a motorcycle making a left turn.
Deanna Marie Soto, 39 was arrested after she and the rider, Robert Lavender,29 crashed in the intersection in which there is no light and Lavender had the right of way. He was pronounced dead on the scene. She complained of pain and was taken to the hospital. Orange County public records show that she was booked and incarcerated on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter on $100,000 bail. Records also show that this is not her first offense. After her initial arraignment, Soto was deferred and her hearing was delayed until further evidence could show cause. At this time, her bail has been executed [not paid but dropped by the court] and she has been released from custody after 3 days and the Santa Ana county district attorney has declined to press charges.
Why are there no charges being pressed against this woman? Even if this was a first offense, if no priors, DUI and vehicular manslaughter are felony offenses. Public records show that this isn't her first arrest for DUI. And now a young man is dead because she drove while intoxicated. This doesn't sound right to me. At all.
I found out that the woman who caused this accident, Deanna M. Soto had NO insurance at the time the crash! Yeah, seriously. I was floored. So in addition to being negligent, she's not been charged in the death of the young man who died, she also had prior DUI's. And no insurance.
WTH? I could go into a big long rant [if you've been hanging out here for any amount of time you know what that's like LOL] but I'll spare you. It stuns me to think of how many people go to jail all over this country with the third strike laws and this woman is walking around free? Again, WTH?
I'm following this on my Twitter [@annarocket] and y'all can hang out with me there. I never announced that because I've kept it on the DL but Twitter is okay for some things. This is one of them. See you there. #JusticeForChanceDaily
I'm pleased to report that Deanna Marie Soto has been arrested and charged on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter in the death of Robert "Chance" Lavender III while intoxicated without gross negligence and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, causing injuries, both are felonies.
If I sound a little gleeful.....I am. This story is up and she never should have been released from custody in the first place.
