Waukesha County, Wisconsin: 12 year old Morgan Geyser and her friend, Anissa Weier (also 12) have been charged with intentional first degree homicide in the stabbing of a 12 year friend whom they lured into the woods near their home. They claimed the were trying to please Slenderman, a fictional internet character from the wiki site Creepypasta. According to reports, to enter his realm, you have to kill someone. And these kids believed this? They stabbed the victim 19 times, leaving her in the woods, where she crawled to a road and was found by a cyclist who got her to safety. She is recovering.....amazingly.
Both Geyser and Weier are being charged as adults but lawyers are trying to have them charged as juveniles. Geyser has just ben declared incompetent to assist in her own defense and it has been suggested by the court that she be medicated. No joke!
This is really mind blowing. When I was 12, I never would have believed in anything so ridiculous......I didn't have the internet but I can honestly say I knew what murder was and I sure as hell never thought about killing anyone! Ever!! I know times are different....but how could no one see that these two were disturbed to the point of trying to kill someone? It was very clearly a premeditated act. This link has a good deal of video if you want to see the back story, including commentary from the creator of Slenderman.
Last night I watched an episode of the news show 20/20 about this case called "Out Of The Woods" that detailed the crime against young Peyton and her recovery and progress.
I am amazed that she had the will to crawl to safety and to come back from such a brutal and horrific act. One of the things that struck me as particularly disturbing is that one of the girls who planned the attack [and the two girls both admitted it was pre-meditated] was that it was "weird" that she felt "no remorse". She has been found incompetant to assist in her own defense.
Watch the piece and think about it. Show 20/20 some
I saw this on the news a while back. It's so scary to me that children have become so violent....and for some reason parents seem so clueless about their own children. Society is doomed if parents don't WAKE UP.
The case of Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier will be in court for a preliminary hearing this week to find out if they will be tried on attempted homicide charges.
Prosecutors charged the girls with first degree attempted homicide last May and could be sentenced to up to 60 years in prison if convicted as adults. Their lawyers have said they may still try to move this case to juvenile court [honestly not sure how that works if they've been charged as adults]
Judge Micheal Bohren ruled in December 2014 that both defendants are competent to stant trial and has set aside two days for the proceedings.
Defense attorneys introduced to the court notebooks that show a series of pictures of Slenderman containing over 60 images and other drawings indicating what I would think was an extremely disturbed mental state. The girl claims she uses Vulcan mind control and talks to both unicorns and Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter series ["when he's not away on business trips."]. Also presented was the fact that she had a collection of mutilated barbie dolls, and Anthony Cotton, the lawyer for the defense says his client is NOT being medicated.
I'm totally not joking, y'all. Take a look at some of the things she drew in her notebooks, what were her parents doing? What. The. HELL.
Bottom line: she might have been disturbed, but the two of them planned this for months.
While I am on this subject I got a nasty email [that I'm not going to dignify by reprinting here] because I posted the names of the girls being charged. The names were reported on CNN, The New York Post and ABC before I posted them. Take your foolishness elsewhere. It's not like I outed them.
Last night ABC re-aired the 20/20 episode I linked in this thread "Into The Woods" about this case. They updated it though, to include details about the girls who did this and aired parts of their videotaped confessions. I said earlier that I knew what murder was when I was 12 and I never once entertained anything of the sort. Hearing these two talk about it like this is just unreal. I mean, my kid had the internet at 12 and nothing like this ever happened in my home, that's for damn sure. Just, where were the parents? Of course, my kid was way past the point of believeng in internet boogiemen. Assuming of course, it is true they did this because of some internet boogieman.
This link comes from CNN and has a great video that shows portions of the interrogation videos of the girls. Like I said, unreal. I can't wrap my head around two 12 year old kids planning a murder for months, all down to the details and stabbing her. How could the parents not notice something ANYTHING was at least......a little off?
From the website of crime expert of Charles Moltanedo comes this update on the Slenderman case: the lawyer for one of girls is trying to have a lesser charge of second degree homicide used instead of charging his client with first degree murder because the intimidation his client feared from Slenderman amounted to coercion and would justify a lesser charge.
I had to read that four times before I understood it. Coercion?
Coercion because according to his client, "Slenderman targets children so I was really scared knowing he could kill my whole family in like, three seconds."
The court has until March 13th to make a decision.
MSN/Reuters: A Wisconsin judge has ruled that Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser are to be tried in adult court for their roles in the "Slenderman" case that stems from an attack on a classmate in May 2014.
This is the first thing I've seen about the parents of the accused and it left a bad taste in my mouth. I really thought that parental responsibility was first and foremost in this situation, and I still do. When a 12 year old child tries to murder someone, and in such a brutal way, over such a bizarre reason, there are some mighty big issues to be addressed.
So when I saw this link, it was like, YES! Let's hear it, I wanna know what the hell is going on in there. And what the website did was to take a whole bunch of stuff off the Mom and Dad's Instagram accounts, such as pictures of stuff they liked, "goth" stuff like candle holders and some cards that the father gave the mother with skulls and cross-bones. They criticized his love for the color black. And of course my personal all time favorite, they attacked his taste in music.
Come on, yo, really? It is never that simple.
I'm not standing up for these people. I don't know them and I still want to know what the hell was going on that they didn't know how seriously disturbed their daughter was at that age that she could a; believe in the internet boogie man to that extent; b: plan out a murder and c: compartmentalize the whole thing in the manner of which she must have, if she knew what she was doing was wrong [she has admitted such] and still thought to take a family photo with her when she left to do the killing, saying she was never coming back to her home, that she was going to live in the forest in Slenderman's mansion after the killing. What I am saying is I highly doubt the musical taste of the father [pretty close to MY taste in music] is to blame for any of this and the mom dressing up her other kid for Halloween and posting that on same Instagram is extremely poor journalism, not to mention really low and totally irrelevant.
I've gone on long enough. Here's your link. Make your own call.
AP Milwaukee: A judge denied a request for his client in the "Slenderman" stabbing to be moved to a psychiatric treatment center, saying long term treatment needed to be considered, but she was a flight risk.
Anthony Cotton, lawyer for the 12 year old said his client "Has no friends, no money, no car. She's no sort of flight risk."
The judge also denied a motion to reduce her $500,000 bail.
This is probably the best editorial I've seen on this subject and I've read a ton of them.
We all want the answer: why the hell did this happen? Did the kids who did this really believe some internet fictional character was going to up and kill their family if they didn't kill someone for him? Because I have a really hard time with that. Most 13 year olds....MOST 13 year olds aren't going to seriously go down that road and stab someone to death and try to hike out to the middle of the woods afterwards.
One has expressed she felt no remorse. That's an even tougher pill to swallow.
But take a look at this and see if you don't get the feeling I did. Mainstream media has made a big fat ruckus with conflicting reports and the creators of the site that spawned this character sounding completely sane and rational. We aren't going to run out and kill a bunch of people from playing too much Resident Evil. There's going to have to be something severely wrong for you do do that, video game or not. Just think this through and try not to believe the hype. You just might surprise yourself.
Did you see the movie that was made about the internet meme Slenderman? If so, what did you think? Do you think this crime will get a movie like the Casey Anthony thing or Drew Peterson? I could see this going to the Lifetime network or maybe even HLN home of your nemesis Nancy Grace.

Hey there! Long time no chat! You know....I can't say. I saw part of the one you're talking about on You Tube, you know I'll watch anything when I'm trying to inform myself and it wasn't about the crime, it was kind of like "I Know What You Did Last Summer" Remember that movie? Or "The Blair Witch Project"! That's a better comparison. As far as seeing a Hollywood feature? That's a tough one. Because the two who did this were so young, I can't see them doing a true life kind of thing. But you never know.....they did a movie on the WM3 and look at how bad they screwed that up. LOL @ my nemesis Nancy Grace.
Very nice to hear from you. I enjoyed your kind words Have an amazing summer Don't be a stranger, young lady!
In the far past, kids and adults have copied Freddie from a Nightmare on Elm Street and Jason from the Friday the 13th movies and either tried or committed crimes. This defence is a modified "The Devil Made Me Do It" or "the Dog told me to do it". No doubt the children are deeply disturbed and whatever fantasy they both had fed off each other. Today's movie and video game horrors are far more vivid that a Clive Barker movie or novel. The stuff that would make you yawn at most Stephen King creations. If they are enough to give adults pause (in this ISIS filled World) just think how these things effect children. Here is a character that disturbs me. I have not even played the video game or seen the movie but this one is enough to inspire a nightmare and I don't even know why. It is just so wrong for some reason that I can not explain.
I had one thread about a kid who claimed he was inspired by [or overly influenced by, take your pick] Rob Zombie's re-make of the John Carpenter classic, "Halloween" to murder his mom and sister while his father was out of town on a work related trip. First his thing was, yeah I did it. I watched this movie and I just decided to kill them, then it was all,"NO! The movie made me do it." Come on. I've seen all those movies directed by Rob Zombie, none of that ever made me kill anyone. If you have half a brain, you know the movie/Marilyn Manson/ whatever didn't make you do it. There was something very wrong in the first place.
I don't know if the kid's mom thought "Okay, he's 17 and he can watch contemporary horror and he knows it's just a movie." [assuming this was even an issue for her] It was an issue for me when my kid was 17! I most certainly was concerned about the media's effect on my child and what she was exposed to. But my kid didn't believe in internet boogiemen like Slenderman and didn't go around with homicidal thoughts because she saw a scary movie. The next generation [the ones that aren't incarcerated] are in bad shape.
I think they call it "Pyramid Head" from Silent Hill. There is a cult of kids that love "Pyramid Head". Take what you will from that. Rob Zombie's Halloween was much more psychological than the first. The Devil's Rejects - sick movie and not one of my favorites.
Disturbed kid, just add weird cultist serial killer fiction that is super realistic. Wa-la. Bad things happen.
I do not believe in the voices told me to do this or that defence either.
I didn't like The Devil's Rejects. I'm not a giant horror fan to begin with. That movie had no nuance. He shouldn't have re-made Halloween, either. That is an old school classic that I can hardly watch to this day, it is so creepy. Explicit gore is boring to me. Psychological thrillers like Psycho [the original] or Carrie,or The Shining are what I like if I watch something in that genre. But it's honestly not ever going to be my first choice. I'm a fan of his music though. His live shows are insanely entertaining.
I never played Silent Hill. That thing is weird as hell. It has a wikipedia....freaking thing. Maybe he needs a disclaimer, too.
AP: The lawyer for one of the two girls is in court today trying to convince a judge that his client should be tried as a juvenile in the stabbing of 12 year old Peyton Lautner, in what has been called the "Slenderman" stabbing.
Wrong answer.
This was, by the admission of both the girls who were involved, planned out months in advance [that's called premeditation] and one has said she felt no remorse. I can't for the life of me figure out one good reason why they should not be charged as adults.
It will be announced in August where the matter will be decided [adult or juvenile court]
They probably are being seen by some kind of mental health professional while in custody but I can't say what the quality of that treatment is. I do remember the one girl telling a professional that she could talk to Lord Voldermort when he wasn't on business trips and she had Vulcon mind control.
I hadn't heard anything about this in a while, so I thought I'd dig a little and I came up with this, dated June 18,2015.
The Milwaukee Sentinel Journal reported the psychiatrist Kenneth Robbins has evaluated one of the suspects twice [remember, they are minors so even though their names have been leaked to the media, it's difficult to know which one it is] and reports her condition is becoming worse. She doesn't want to be medicated because she is afraid that it will make her "friends", meaning fictional characters from Harry Potter and Slenderman go away. His contention is that she needs more help mentally and in juvenile court she would have availibility to the services she needs.
This is kind of a mental health timeline, if you will, as to the efforts to get the case moved from adult court and the progress of mental heath services.
From ABC News: An important decision is due this week in the case of two Wisconsin girls being charged with stabbing their 12 year old friend to please fictional internet charecter Slenderman.
The decision will be made to either send the case to adult court or juvenile court. Each girl faces a charge of attempted first degree homicide in adult court and could be sentenced to 65 years in the state prison system if convicted. Lawyers for both girls will argue that their clients are mentally ill and that juvenile court will afford them the psychological help that adult detention will not.
Anyone 10 or older who is charged with first degree attempted homicide is automatically considered an adult under Wisconsin law.
Okay....that kinda confuses me. If they are considered adult under Wisconsin law, why are they even being considered for juvenile detention? They planned this for months [that's called premeditation,y'all] and one has expressed that she felt no remorse, the other said that the bad part of her wanted the victim to die. So what the hell? Adult court, full punishment and stop wasting time and tax payers dollars. I'm sure I sound unsympathetic but if someone stabbed my kid 19 times and left her in the woods to die because they believed in the internet boogie man, I'd damn sure want someone to say it.
NBC News:A Waukesha County judge has ruled that Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier will be tried ad adults in the attempted murder of their 12 year old friend in May of 2014.
Council for both girls said that trying them in adult court amount to cruel and unusual punishment and they would not get the mental health services they need.
They are both facing one count of attempted first degree homicide.
I think this is the right way to go. Probably an unpopular opinion, but if tried in juvenile court they would only be incarcerated until age 25. The crime calls for harsher punishment than that. Someone asked me if I would feel that way if it was my child, and I have to honestly say I don't know. My kid has never been homicidal nor believed in the internet boogieman, as I've said before. But it begs a question to be answered: how in the HELL did they get to the point of really believeing all of that?
Associated Press: The two girls accused of the stabbing of Peyton Lautner in what is being called the "Slenderman Stabbing" are set to enter a plea in court today [Friday 8-21-2015]. Both are 13 years old and are to be tried as adults.
Investigators have said they planned the stabbing for months and invited Lautner to a sleepover, at which they lured her into the woods, where they stabbed her 19 times and then started to walk the 300 miles to the forest where they thought Slenderman lived in a mansion. By killing someone, they thought they would become his "proxies" and would live with him in the forest.
They each face one count of first degree intentional homicide.
The judge in the case of Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier has entered a plea of not guilty on their behalf.
WISN-TV Florida reporter Nick Bohr said attorney is considering appealing the judges decision and appealing the judges ruling to try them as adults. There has been a trial date set for October 15.
There is a poll site where there are a couple of polls about this case. It is http://www.waukeshanow.com/polls/292284061.html
Brian Burton, Waukesha,Wisconsin
Thank you Brian!
There are more than one: should the case stay in adult court [53% say yes, the crime warrants the charge] and another asking if the judge did the right thing by charging them as adults. I think that judge is doing a fabulous job. Let's just hope he doesn't cave in and kick this down to kiddie court.
From About News.com comes a great link with lots of information about this case. I learned a couple of things.
*according to this, the 2 accused could get 45 years if convicted, not 65, as I've reported here. Not sure, but I believe sentencing would be up to the judge. It may be 65, might be 45.
*both girls were present at the last hearing [8-21-15] but neither made a statement.
*the attorneys for Anissa Weir stated that they may try to enter pleas of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
*when lawyer Anthony Cotton tried to have bail reduced for Morgan Geyser, it was his intention to have her placed in a psyciatric setting called the Milwaukee Academy. I'll link that up for you.
*Morgan Geyser told her lawyer that if Slenderman told her to kill, she "would have to do it again."
