Associated Press/MSN: San Fransisco, California, A judge is reconsidering the release of a man who was called "The Pillowcase Rapist" for one of his habits of gagging some of his victims with a pillowcase to quiet them during the attack.
Santa Clara County Judge Richard Loftus will consider a request to incarcerate Christopher Hubbart in a state mental health hospital, despite his release last year and his move to the Los Angeles area where he was born and raised. He served a 14 year sentence for the admitted 40 rapes he committed between 1971 and 1983. He is 63 years old. He was released last July and is living in a small house owned by a felon who was convicted of trying to have his ex-wife and her boyfriend murdered. Nice landlords. From what I gathered, the state of California pays his $2400 a month rent.
From what I can see, and I might have this wrong, he is pretty much on life lockdown. Dude can do nothing alone, go nowhere alone, can't ride the bus, can't drive a car and is monitored by a private security firm 24/7. He needs permission to work, use the internet, go to the beach, pool or park. [It seems as though he isn't even really enjoying the quality of life the rest of us are and frankly, I don't think he should. He is a serial rapist!] Ankle monitor, GPS blah, blah bull 40 sexual assaults? 14 years for 40? That's just not right. But I don't think they ever should've let him out in the first place.
The little community where he has been released to is called Lake Los Angeles and they're pretty pissed about this whole thing. I can't say as I blame them. I sure as hell wouldn't want to live next door to some guy who's former parole officer described him as one of the scariest men he'd ever met and that's saying something. They have protested and plan to drive up to the hearing to show the judge their feelings about this dude being out in society. Best of luck to you ladies, I applaud your courageous efforts.
Some links for you: the original story from MSN about his freedom possibly being revoked, something from the Huffington Post when he was released and a couple of others so you can read and make an informed decision as to the validity of the allegation that he should have remained inside that mental hospital.....he belongs there in my opinion, they never should have put him in there in the first place. Prison was too good for him.
From CBS/AP: Santa Clara county Judge Richard Loftus ruled Monday, May 12,2015 that Christopher Hubbart, also known as "The Pillowcase Rapist" would not be returned to the psychiatric facility he was incarcerated in, despite prosecutors claim that he had violated his probation by letting his ankle monitor's power run low and a huge public outcry that he was a danger to the community and that he could, and would re-offend.
Hubbart has been in and out of mental hospitals since he was first convicted of rape in 1972. A jury declared Hubbart a sexually violent predator in 2000 and he was committed to a state run psychiatric hospital, even though he had served his prison term. He has admitted raping at least 40 women between 1972 and 1982. As predicted, the community is furious and are afraid he will behave in an aggressive and sexually violent manner.
Don't have words for this one. Here's your link. I predict I'm going to get email on this.
