The Mount Pleasant,PA area junior football league has called off their football season for their players.
Reason? Ammunition shells were found placed at the gates of the practice field with names of the league officers printed on them, one assumes to shock and threaten said participants into some kind of fear that the season would be controlled by whoever might have done it. Since the person/people doing it were not reported to have affiliated themselves with the act, such as a gang or a rival team, we can only wonder who would do something like that. Kids? Bullies? Mad as hell parents? Your guess is as good as mine, but whomever is responsible, shame on you.
I was not particularly athletic as a child, and I commend family members that I see promoting sports for my little cousins, who benefit greatly from them. I can't believe that the culture of violence we live in has seeped into a youth football league, an activity that is beneficial in many ways: teaching good sportsmanship, physical fitness and teamwork. Also,it is an activity shows kids that parents can work together for the common good, but unfortunately, there seems to be many incidents of parents going mental on each other when the game doesn't go their way. And now this? Really?
Raising children to be the best adults they can be requires us to show them that we can rise above the ills of society and do better not just for ourselves but for the common good of mankind. It saddens me that people are making ruin of something so positive for the youth of our nation.
