Student teacher affair goes too far,results in murder

Wow.This is just something else.We've all heard the stories about the teacher who had an affair with her/his student but this one is worse.

Erin McLean was doing her student teaching at a Tennessee school when she began a relationship with a young man named Sean Powell. There have been conflicting reports as to how far the relationship went,physically.She did give him alchol and they did engage in some contact on an overnight co-ed field trip.She is making no public statements [pretty smart of her considering she's pretty much totally screwed].

Her husband,Eric McLean found evidence that lead him to believe his wife was having a relationship with Sean.On the evening of March 10,Eric called 911 to report there was a prowler trying to get in his house.There seems to be some discrepancy about what he did next,but his wife was pretty hysterical because Sean was in the driveway in his car. Eric allegedly took a shotgun and shot Sean,killing him. Erin hysterically called 911 and Eric was picked up by the police walking down the railroad tracks,still holding the shotgun.

Man.I don't even know what to say.This just sucks.

Knoxville TN: Eric McLean,the man accused of shooting and killing his wife's teenage lover gave an interview to NBC's Today show,claiming that yes,he did shoot him but it was an accident.I can't believe his lawyer let him do that.What a total moron!He said he loved his wife and sons and it was  all a terrible mistake.

Four days later,his wife,Erin McLean was rushed to a Nashville hospital after overdosing on pills in a suicide attempt.

Can I just interject my opinion here?

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU TWO?!?!
You have two young sons who are now bearing the weight of your stupidity.Yeah,that's right I said stupidity!!! I'm not even going to say "what could be next" because I'll be inviting even more karma into this insanity.I'd like to smack the pair of them. I feel so bad for those two boys.

I'm still watching this story. It's been profiled on Dateline MSNBC and honestly,I can't for the life of me figure out why the HELL the court hasn't stepped in and taken those kids away from the pair of them.I've done some stupid things in my time and honestly,I don't think anyone can say they never made a mistake with their kids,but this situation has grown completely out of control.   evileye

Teacher accused of having affair with student before his death disappears from mental hospital

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) A teacher accused of having an affair with a high school student, and whose husband is accused of killing the young man, has disappeared with her two children after checking out of a mental hospital.

Erin McLean, who has legal custody of her two boys, ages 11 and 8, has been missing since Sept. 15, according to attorneys for her and her husband.

Attorney Gary Blackburn said his client is emotionally distraught, but he doesn't believe she would harm her children.

"Erin's undergoing enormous pressure," Blackburn said Friday. "She's unable to get or keep jobs. Anything she does is interpreted in a certain way. I fear for her. Anyone in that state, you don't know what might happen."

Eric McLean's attorney, Bruce Poston, said family members went public with the disappearance Friday in hopes of finding the boys.

Erin McLean had just checked out of a mental hospital Sept. 15. The boys had been staying with a grandmother.

Eric McLean has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 18-year-old Sean Powell, who he believed was having an affair with his wife. Powell was shot March 10 as he sat unarmed in his car in front of the McLeans' home. Erin McLean had been his English teacher.

Eric McLean filed for divorce from his wife, and has said the shooting was an accident. He is free on bail awaiting a Jan. 14 trial.

Family members think Erin McLean may be heading to California to meet someone she met on the Internet, Poston said.

They plan to file a petition Monday arguing that McLean is not fit to have custody which would allow authorities to put out a missing person report.

"She's not stable," Poston said. "These boys are in danger. For now, this is the first time both families agree she is too unstable to have these boys."

Blackburn said his client, who was recently fired from a Nashville school amid new allegations of improper conduct with a student, has been frustrated trying to find a new job and doesn't know how to handle the public attention.

"She's a fragile person," Blackburn said. "There's two ways to deal with it fight and flight. She chose the latter."

Saw this on cnn and damn...what the hell kind of teachers are they hiring now-a-days? I am sure glad I don't have a teenage boy in school. This teacher/student thing is getting waaaay out of hand. I bet the husband lost his marbles when he found out and that is why he went looney and murdered Sean. I am so sick of these female teachers getting it on with their students and thinking it is A-OK. again..DAMNconfusedconfusedconfused

I'm starting to think we need to have prospective teachers have psychological exams. This crap is absolutely ridiculous. I can't for the life of me imagine what this women is thinking. I feel for her kids.  evileye

This has finally gone to trial and Eric McLean was convicted of only reckless homicide in the shooting death of his wife's teenage lover,Sean Powell.

Erin McLean has their two children,and is parts unknown.Supposedly was meeting someone she communicated with on the internet in California.They are divorced however and have JOINT custody,so I'm quite sure he will,if given probation and time served [as many believe he will be] pursue her agressively through the proper legal channels to get those kids back from her.

The max he can get is 4 years,I believe.Don't quote me on that.

I watched a little of the trial while on my little holiday.It was sad and made me wish for a better resolution.I know that sounds awfully simplistic,but really,I just can't think of any better way to put it.I started this thread in what....May of 07? And now here we are,it is a done deal,and nothing good has come of it.There was no justice for Sean Powell,I still think Erin McLean is batsh*t crazy and Eric....I'm just going to say you don't point a loaded gun at someone,co-cked with the safety off unless you are going to pull the trigger.It's that simple.

Well Alice,here's the thing.I DON'T think he had it coming.He was a KID and didn't use the best discretion.Eric and Erin,however are adults and definately should have known better than to be engaged in ridiculous behavior that ultimately led to the end result.As far as me leaving them alone? No. It's called freedom of speech,sister.You can download the Bill Of Rights and The Constitution from our main page in the event you are confused about what that means.    evileye
