Missing student led double life as porn star

Friend: 18-year-old believed to be victim of foul play posed nude on Web


EL DORADO, Kan. - A missing Kansas college student believed to be the victim of foul play apparently led a double life as an Internet porn star by the name of Zoey Zane.

Nude photos of 18-year-old Emily Sander appeared on a Zoey Zane Web site before she vanished, and investigators are looking into whether her modeling had anything to do with her disappearance last Friday.

She enjoyed it. She is a young teenage girl and she wanted to be in the movies and enjoyed movies. She needed the extra money, Nikki Watson, a close friend of Sanders at Butler Community College, told The Associated Press on Wednesday. Nobody in El Dorado knew besides her close friends.

Sanders brother, Jacob Sander, confirmed that the nude woman pictured on the site is his sister.


Apparently involved in a Web site situation
El Dorado Police Chief Tom Boren said FBI and state experts on Internet crime have been called in.

Investigators are aware that Miss Sander was apparently involved in a Web site situation, he said. Allegations that this may factor into her disappearance are being thoroughly investigated.

Sander was last seen leaving a bar in El Dorado, about 30 miles from Wichita, with a man identified as Israel Mireles, 24, authorities said. Sander and Mireles had met that night at the bar, according to Watson.

After Mireles did not show up Saturday at his job at an Italian restaurant, his employer went to the motel room where he was staying.

His motel room was found to appear in great disarray and a large quantity of blood was found in the room, Boren said. Bed clothing was found to be missing. The police were called.


Manhunt under way
A nationwide manhunt was under way for Mireles and his 16-year-old girlfriend. A rental car he had been driving turned up Tuesday in Texas, where he had family. On Tuesday, authorities released a photo of a white bedspread with a floral design and asked for the publics help in locating it.

Our hopes kind of diminish each day we dont hear from her, the police chief said Wednesday.

Sander recently signed a contract for the pornographic work on the Web site, and told her parents about it on Thanksgiving, Watson said. Her boyfriend broke up with her because he did not approve, Watson said.

Sanders grandmother, Shirley Sander, said: What you are telling me now is things we have never been told or heard. I dont know what to say. We have never heard anything like this and truthfully I dont believe it.

The company listed as the domain registrant for the Web site lists a Wichita address. Its administrator did not immediately return a call for comment. The site domain record shows the site was created in April.


Emily did not want anybody to know
Watson said she does not believe Sanders pornography work had anything to do with the disappearance.

Nobody even knew about this until one of our close friends came out and told everybody because Emily did not want anybody to know, Watson said.

The brown-haired, blue-eyed Sander was last seen wearing low-rider jeans and a Dont Mess With Texas T-shirt. She has tattoos and body piercings.

The young woman's family has insisted her modeling was just that---nude modeling,not porn. I will try and find the article I saw.

Either way,I'm sure she never intended her family to see her photos.  evileye

Sorry I'm running a little behind,I had some computer problems and I had oral surgery this week.

It's been discussed at length on many sites that Emily was not a "porn star" but a nude model.She didn't have any kind of sex on film,and didn't do any kind of what most of us would consider adult pornorography.She was what would be what would be typically seen as the kind of nude model as seen in Playboy.

I consider myself to be open  minded and it's pretty hard to shock or offend me.I know if I was in the shoes of this young womans parent's,I'd be saddened that the world had to focus on this one thing alone and not remember that she had so much else to give the world had she been given the chance.

Emily Sander's Body Identified

Investigators have positively identified a body found Thursday near Toronto as that of 18-year-old Emily Sander.

Butler County Attorney Jan Satterfield has sealed details of Sander's autopsy, including the cause of death. El Dorado police say the medical examiner has released Sander's body to her family for burial.

El Dorado Police Chief Tom Boren says investigators used dental records to make a positive ID.

There's no word yet on funeral arrangements for Sander, but Butler Community College will hold two vigils for Sander next week. The first is Monday evening at 6:30 at the Andover campus. The second is Tuesday also at 6:30 at the El Dorado campus.

Friends of Emily Sander say they wanted to come and see the spot themselves.

"My youngest daughter was her best friend and she's taking it extremely hard so she wanted to drive out and see since they said they found a body out here," says Robin Eastham.

Eastham says Sander was like another daughter to her. Seeing the ditch near Toronto in Woodson County, where her body may have been found, wasn't easy.

On Thursday, searchers found a body matching Sander's description along U.S. 54 about 50 miles east of El Dorado.

"I have three girls and a boy and if something like this would ever happen I don't know how I could do it."

El Dorado Police Chief Tom Boren says a positive ID will likely take several days. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday.

Meantime, authorities are leaving no stone unturned as they search for evidence. Search teams have been narrowed from dozens of people, to just El Dorado Deputy Chief Rick Kennedy and another officer.

"We're not covering as wide of an area. Where before we were covering the roadway, both sides, plus a mile north and south of the road on every turnoff, and now we're just concetrating on a one or two mile area," says Kennedy.

Sander was last seen Friday night leaving The Retreat bar. Police say she was with 24-year-old Israel Mireles. Police now say he is a suspect in the homicide investigation.

Earlier this week, a car rented by Mireles turned up in Vernon, Texas. Investigators believe Mireles is with his 16-year-old girlfriend, Victoria Martens. Martens is pregnant. Authorities say it's possible the two are heading to or are already in Mexico.

Martens' mother, Sandy, says her daughter sent her a text message sometime after the pair left Baxter Springs. That's where Martens was staying with her grandmother when Mireles picked her up.

Sandy Martens says her 16-year-old daughter's message was that she had a lot to say but she didn't send any more details.

Police say they have talked with the operators of an adult website that Sander posed for and believe it did not play a role in her disappearance.

Investigators also collected evidence from a motel room a short distance from the bar where Sander disappeared. Police say there was a lot of blood in the room and a floral print bed sheet (pictured) is missing.

As for those left behind, "I just want her family to know that our thoughts and prayers are with them and that we're thinking about them every minute," says Eastham.
