Need some opinions

Hello all, I haven't been on much but I do check the board at least every couple of days.  I need some honest opinions.  I have been approached about doing a TV show following the work on unsolved/unusual homicides.  This would be a great thing because it would fund the investigations and allow me to work on cases free of charge for the families.  The problem I see is the fact that these cases do not get solved quickly.  This would be a show that would follow the case as it developes.  Now, would people watch a show that does not solve the case at the end of 30 mins?  Also, I would like to make the show interactive...some how.  A message board and forum is the easy answer.  Are there any other ways to make it interactive.  And now the big question.  Do you think the families would be willing to be on tv? Do you think people would talk in front of a tv camera?  The production company loves the idea, but I want to make sure we can do it right and do some good.  If nothing else, the money from the show will go to funding the cases.  Any opinions are welcomed.

Thanks

Rob

dog father. i think this is a great ideal.doing this show.as for being interactive.could copy format of I dective. which ask the viewr multiple choice questions during the show then gives answer.ex.whatdoes the rope found at scene mean.1 perpentrater brought it with them.2. perpentrateris organiged.victim had been tied but broke free of bonds.yes i think people would watch even if there was no solution such as a conviction at end of show.all shows could end with. somewhere out ther a killer still walks amoung you.could set up a poll where the viewers could vote after watching show.do you believe suspect portrayed in show is guilty or not.then at beginning of next showgive poll results.as for the families beingwilling to go in frontof camera and talk.i see no reason why they wouldnt do this especially if show portrays ther loved one as they were in life.i believe all of these cases presented on various web sites are there becausethe family is trying to bring national attention to there loved ones case.if they post at these sites they should be willing to go on t.v.i believe all would agreethat exposure to the public will assist with these deaths being solved.

atlanta girl, thanks for the response.  I am not sure about the i detective thing.  I will keep it in mind, though.  This is going to be more reality based.  There will be no actors.

I was thinking along the same lines of the families wanting publicity.  This would provide national coverage and at no cost, at all.

Thanks again.

Rob

sounds great to me. And I have a case for you....in the early 80's a friend (not a really close one tho) came home from work and found the door ajar and his wife and baby girl were missing. Her purse and glasses were there and she could not see too well without them. Also the baby's diaper bag was there. The only thing that appeared to be missing other than Diane and the baby was the cord from the TV. Ken was completely cleared and many years later I heard thru friends that her body was found in the mountains in Santa Cruz, Calif. I have heard nothing since and as far as I know the baby has never been found. I have tried many searches but since I cannot remember the exact spelling of their last name I come up with a zero.

would like to see some of the stories here on justice junction. portrayed.like the butts case, branndon  glenn case.janie ward case.enigma, the story you posted about would also be good case to portray.so sad baby still missing. but as much as i hate to think it. if mothers showed up dead the baby is most likel dead as well.perhaps a thread could be started here as well on this case we could all discuss it.

The Butts case is in my "top 5" list.  To  be more accurate, it will probably be number one or two.  That one is the case that has made me decide to really "jump in with both feet."  I have worked some unsolved/unusual cases, as an "after hours" project.  The Butts case made me realize I needed to be able to do more.  I have several things in the works.  The TV show is being discussed, next week, in a production meeting.  I have a book deal that is being looked at too.  I am also starting a non-profit group for unsolved/unusual homicide cases.  My investigations company will be the primary investigative company for the group.  The way I look at it, if, just one of those "projects" work out, then I will be able to fund some cases and do what I want to do.

So....send good vibes...lol    Hope that at least one, if not all of them, work out.  I know the non-profit group will work out.  That is the only one I have complete control over.  The tv show will be my show, but I will have a producer and a company to answer to.  The book deal will depend on the vision of a publisher.  I have a famous author that is going to help me with it.  I would preferr to leave her name out for now, don't want to jinxs anything..lol

Dogfather if you could explain a little more about these endeavors , the tv show are you talking about like interviewing family members and such, or what exactly are you saying there?  The webbsite got ya ..... The book needs some more explanation also for me .   Maybe at this point my brain is on overload and i'm not understanding , but please do explain...   I'm all for just about anything to help with the Butts Triple Homicide....

Ok...sorry have been too busy the last couple of days...

I don't want to get too much into the specifics, until I have a "green light" on the projects.  But, the basic idea behind them is they would allow the viewers/readers to help solve the cases.  All proceedes, that I get, goes into funding the next case.  I only have control over the money I recieve.

The book idea, is going to be interesting.  I want to fund cases with it, but I have to get the first book sold and published first.  So, the first book will be more about me and the journey to get my project going.  If the first book gets published, it will fund the next case and the next case will be the next book, if all goes right.  I also have an idea for a way the reader can become involved....but I will keep that to myself, for now..lol

Hi Dogfather,

I think this is a wonderful idea. I also think the family members would be more than willing to go on camera if they think it may help solve a case of a loved one, as long as it is done in good taste.

There are so many unsolved cases out there, you should have plenty of material.

Rob,

I think that it's an excellant idea .... and I think you should do it without a doubt. Amessage board and/or forum would be a great start to giving people who wwatch the show a way to leave info if they have any. Another good idea would be an 800 tip line number. Will add more to this later.

Hey Dog and everyone!

I have been surfing the net for ages now because I read and am interested in true crime.  Lately I've been searching and finding everything I can on Karla Holmoka b/c she's being released soon and a movie is coming out in 2005 as well.  Anyway.. I ran across this site and found this message board.  Love it!

Dog, this show idea sounds like the tv show 'The First 48' on A&E.  I am so into crime shows (the real crime shows - A&E's American Justice, Cold Case Files, City Confidential and Court TV's shows Forensic Files, etc)  I just happened to catch The First 48, for the first time, last night and wow, I thought it was amazing!  I would def. like to see more shows like the one you are describing!  Good luck..  I hope it works out for you.  I think you will have a huge audience.  I'm so hooked on these shows that I never watch any shows on ABC, NBC (except Friends reruns :).

All the best!
