Date set for start of Weaver murder trial
BY SONNY LONG District Judge Ralph Burgess has set jury selection for June 27 in the murder trial of Kathy Weaver of Atlanta. Weaver remains in Cass County Jail on $1 million bond. Weaver has been charged with killing her husband, Mike Scott, in December of 2002. The case was initially ruled a suicide until Weaver's son Chad, approached Atlanta Police with murder allegations against her. He later secretly taped Kathy allegedly talking about the crime. On the tape, Kathy allegedly says, "He did deserve to die." Dallas attorney Doug Mulder is representing Weaver, who has been in jail since Aug. 9, 2004. Mulder also represented Kathy's son Kevin Hailey in his 1992 probable cause hearing in the Butts triple homicide case. Hailey is now in jail in Caddo Parish, La. awaiting trial for Attempted Murder, slated to start next month.
