Wondering what everyone else thinks..

I was watching tv last night... (I had already been thinking about Terri Schiavo the last few weeks, of course) but I was watching A&E - they had a special on about her and I learned a lot of things that I didn't know before...

I was wondering what everyone thinks about this:  most people believe that we have a soul, separate from our physical bodies... right?  Well, if this is true and Terry was in a vegetative state.. they said there is a big hole in her brain, basically, and it is just filled with spinal fluids... so any noises or movement she makes, it is all involuntary, as she has no thoughts, feelings, or any other brain activity to register a thing.  If this is true... where is her soul?  If she's still alive but not really..?  What is her soul doing?  Is it still there?  Does this question make sense?  I just kept thinking.. how does this fit in to our beliefs (not all peoples belief, I realize).

Also... I just thought of another question along these lines.. if a mentally retarded person passes away, do you think their soul lives on as a "normal" / mentally clear person?

What an interesting question.

I feel bad for the parents because from what I understand,Terrie's husband hasn't made it easy for them.Correct me if I'm wrong here, but shouldn't they be able to say what they think and feel without the fear of repurcussion?

I can't imagine being in that situation. I pray every day I won't ever be. I think that your soul is seperate from your earthly body and God sees that and not the body you lived in on earth. I don't know if I'm correct on that, just my .02 worth.

Interesting.. thank you!  I agree... that's what I had in mind too.  It's just that when I thought of it... it stumped me :)

I also agree that Terry's poor parents have been through the ringer!  I can't imagine ever being in that type of situation either.. it almost makes me not want to marry my girls off!  I just don't see what it would've harmed to let her parents keep her and take care of her!  I don't get it at all....
