So we've all seen this all over the news by now. I still can't believe it. And what I'm having an even harder time understanding is how law enforcement missed chance after chance after chance of finding this poor girl (now a grown woman.) I normally am one of the biggest supporters of our men and women in blue. But how the hell did they miss this? The guy was on parole right? How is it NO ONE EVER searched his entire property, especially when they received calls of children playing in his backyard, knowing he was a convicted sex offender? I know, playing the blame game is useless, and what's done is done. But these issues should definitely be addressed and resolved, because there are still so many children missing out there. It makes me wonder how many of them have had missed opportunities of being found as well? Some things need to change, quick, fast and in a hurry!
I remember seeing interviews with people who knew her. They were all so overjoyed and ecstatic to learn she'd been found. And then you could see the horror wash over their faces when they learned the details of her 18 years in captivity. Her being found went from such a joyous occasion to a horrific one all at the same time. I also read that Jaycee is feeing horrible guilt, because she has such strong feelings for her captor. And it's not a wonder she did develop a bond with him. Other than her children, he was her only human contact for 18 years. She also apparently never told her daughters that their father was a rapist, and kidnapped her, and that they were all prisoners. I really hope she and her children are able to move past this and begin happier lives.
And the plot thickens, again, and again, and again. I saw on the news today that police discovered a bone fragment in property adjacent to this psycho's home, property that he apparently had access too. Also, as well as being investigated in cold cases of murdered prostitutes, they are now also investigating him as the possible abductor of two other children (I lost the link to the story darn it). Both of their cases are "cold." Both were females, around the same age as Jacyee was at the time she was abducted, and they all looked like each other. I honestly believe we're only at the tip of the iceberg with this monster. I believe without a doubt he has commited many, many more sex crimes, and murders, against women and children. But here's what I don't get. How can he be this rapist, kidnapper, probable murderer, and yet still have a wife? I wonder if she is a victim herself, or if she's just as sick in the head as he is?
The thing that I'm thinking....the accused are going to get 5150'D like in the Elizabeth Smart case and be declared unable to stand trial. Then they sit in a psych ward for years and talk to God in the TV.....and noone is held responsible for this disgusting, foul sin.
It just keeps getting worse. Apparently Jaycee's daughters were told all their lives that Jaycee was their older sister. They just learned today that she is in fact their mother. This is going to take decades of therapy for all three of them.

Are you for REAL? I got my stupid internet AND cable interrupted today so I was totally out of the loop.Try that bad media withdrawl.
That sick [expleteve]. I just want to beat my head on this keyboard! There were so many chances for the system to snag this and it was a massive fail. The three of them have my prayers. And the [expleteve] people that did this? May God forgive you because I don't know if those children or anyone else for that matter will do it!!
Do you think they even have a chance to have a normal life?

Yep, I'm for real!! I really think they do have a shot. While they might have been told Jaycee was their sister, she was still their mother figure. She's the one who took care of them and protected them, I'm sure she has a strong bond with them. I think it will take years for Jaycee, her kids, Jaycee's mom, and even stepfather to come to terms with everything that's happened. But I do think they have a shot at overcoming this.
On NBC nightly News last night, they said there are at least two other cold cases of young girls who were abducted (one looked eerily like Jaycee) that this psycho might possibly be linked too. Two of the similarities revealed so far between Jaycee's case and the case of the girl who looks like her (can't remember the name for the life of me) is that the description of the car were very simliar in both cases, and Garrido matches the description of the kidnapper in the other girl's case. Also, in all 3 cases, the girls were between the ages of 11 and 13, and they were all abducted in broad daylight in front of other people. This just reinforces my belief that Garrido has abducted other children besides Jaycee.
CNN updated this too and after I read the whole thing,I was so....sick. They have a pretty extensive profile here at this link. The thing that really made me mad was how Garrido's wife's lawyer was saying "how terrible and appalling this is for her," and I just saw red. He goes on to say that it must be terrible for Jacee and the children too,but his first concern is to bond with his client. [more expletives, fill in the blank.]
There was a big write up in People magazine about the Jaycee case. I'm really thankful she escaped and she is on her way to a healthful and happy life with her children. Check it out if you get a chance.
So,yeah. Phillip Garrido, the slimeball who kidnapped Jaycee Duggart, has changed his plea to not guilty after he had originally agreed to a plea deal.He had been expected to cop to all but 2 counts.
Apparently,he changed his mind. Give me a break. This is why I support the DP,for people like this guy and his skanky wife too.
Man! This is why I think the justice is system is so whacked out and I know Jill will back me up on this one.The pair of them Phillip Garridos and wife Nancy have both changed their pleas yet again,to guilty to a number of varied charges, all of which result in the sick pair of them spending the rest of their unnatural lives in jail.
Thank God! This will spare Jaycee and her children the horrific details that would be dragged out at a jury trial in which they would surely have to testify.
Have a nice life,Mr. and Mrs.Garrido.The penal system awaits you with open arms.
That's true and it's a thought that really bothers me.When you think of all the oppertunities the system had to snag on Phillip and Nancy, they fell flat on their faces every time. This could have happened long ago, giving poor Jaycee the chance to have a normal life and it didn't happen.......
Jaycee isn't the first kidnapped child (now adult) to be discovered alive and being held prisoner after so many years. Remember the Shawn Hornbeck case?
Is Shawn Hornbeck the young man who was snatched off the street while trying to get on the school bus and another boy was almost abducted by same dude?
Ummm, you're sort of right Anna lol. Shawn was abducted off the street. Another boy WAS abudcted, several years later, by the same dude. And when police found the other boy, they also found Shawn, who basically said yeah, my name is Shawn, and I was kidnapped like 5 yrs ago.
LOL @ sort of right.Story of my life, girl. Yeah,I didn't profile that but I remember the boy who was abducted first, which would have been Shawn.
I had a conversation with my insurance rep. about the percentage of children who are actually found and came home alive after being abducted. Sadly,it is not a high percentage.
Anna, I have a question about what you just wrote. Does that percentage pertain to children who were kidnapped by family members, or is that for what they call stranger abductions? From what I have been told (and no idea if it's trueor accurate), but more children are found alive, unharmed, and returned to whomever has custody of them if they are kidnapped by a family member, where it's a parents or some other family member. They are in much more danger of being murdered and never found if they are kidnapped by a stranger. Just curious if you if this is true or not.
Navy Babe, that is for what we think of as stranger abductions. And you are right, custodial interference is a situation unlike stranger abduction. The child is alive and unharmed, just taken by a family member.
In those cases, the police say,"when you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras,"meaning, look at the family, not an outsider. Many times it is a family member. They work from the child's inner circle outward.
