4 Death Sentences

4 death sentences were handed down in the trials of the Newsom Christian Murder cases.

For those that don't know, a brief history:
A young couple, Christopher Newsome, 23, and his girlfriend Channon Christian, 21 were expected at a party thrown by friends in January of 2007.  They never arrived.  Their bodies were discovered 2 days later.   They had been carjacked, beaten, tortured, raped, and murdered, then their bodies were dumped.  It has been called one of the most horrific and brutal double murder cases the town of Knoxville, Tn has ever seen due to the horrific nature of the crime, and due to the horrific nature of the wounds and injuries both victims suffered.

The ringleader of the group of murderers was given 4 death sentences.  His co conspirators were given lesser sentences (one received 18 years in federal prison, the other received life without parole.)

I remember this case. I also remember being completely disgusted and thinking,if they don't catch these pieces of crap who did this....

Man.So very sad! They had their whole lives ahead of them.I'm glad there's been some resolution, although frankly the death penalty would have been more appropriate for the entire slimey pack of them.

I struggle so much with the issue of the death penalty.  I wrote a paper on it in grad school and really learned a lot while doing my research.  I guess I could support the death penalty in certain circumstances (torture and murder of a child?). but until such time that prosecutors proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the perpetrator really did commit the capitol crime, I just can't go along with it.  The Innocence Project has proven (through DNA evidence) that 129+ individuals on death row were actually not guilty.

If ever there was a case for the death penalty, it has to be the Carr Brothers.  They are monsters!  Give this a read.
