15 year old Emo Girl Alyssa Bustamante is accused of killing her 9 yo neighbour because she wanted to know what it feels like to kill someone.
Alyssa's crime was premeditated as she had already dug a grave before killing 9yo Elizabeth kay Olten.
Alyssa also had a youtube presence where she encouraged her brothers to repeatedly touch an electric fence. The title was "Idiots getting Electrocuted"
There is also some talk that she had actually dug two graves and had intended killing her brothers.
I am wrestling with this one, on one hand I am loath to think a 15yo child is irredeemably lost but this child may well be. She appears quite mercenary in her reasons for doing this. She is going to be tried as an adult and if found guilty may serve life. As much as I hate to say this, it may be best. What do you think?
Morning Suz, This is a hard one to call. Generally juvenile cases are tried in juvinile court but on a case by case basis. But in the case of a premeditated murder as this one seems to be,she may very well get tried as an adult.
Where were the parents in all this insanity? I always wonder if they know what's going on with their kids. I hope to goodness I would have known if my daughter was contemplating murdering someone. And the YouTube thing? There's your first clue!
Hi anna , It seems the parents were not responsible for this child. She was in the care of her grandparents. Her mother appears to be a druggie and her father is in gaol for assault. Not a great home life. She also has a history of cutting herself and was on Prozac for depresion. I wonder if anyone sought psychiatric helpfor her.
Sadly it is a sign of the times that so many young people ae being treated for psychiatric problems including depression. It doesn't excuse her behaviour but it is possibly a contributing factor.
had to edit i'm having a serious case of gibberish today...lol

Don't worry about editing. As long as it isn't in a seperate post,no worries.
The parents really had their game face on,didn't they? And you can't help but feel bad for the poor grandparents. I'm sure they don't have the slightest comprehention of what the heck went wrong with the kid.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say she needs to be tried as an adult.Premedition is the key word here and this was definately that.
I imagine the gradnparents are devastated. When children go wrong we always tend to blame ourselves. I often wonder if some people are born bad? I'd really hate to think so but when I see the Jeffrey Dahmers and Rose Wests of the world I just wonder...

Dahmer's father was somewhat normal but from what I understand, his mother had a few screws loose.
There have been studies about how mental illness is heriditary [how do you spell that, anyways?] but it's hard to say. Dahmer was one of the most extreme cases and I think he was going to go bad no matter what.
True anna, Jeffrey Dahmer would probably have gone bad even if he had been raised by the Brady Bunch (that would have given the show a twist...lol) Rose West claimed that she had been abused by her father. I get so tired of hearing people cry abuse as an excuse for vile behaviour. In the case of abusers and murderers I often don't believe the 'abuse' claim. It seems to me that defence lawyers have hit on a formula to cry diminished responsibility and juries by this rubbish.

I think the show would have been far more watchable with Jeffrey in the mix. They also could have used him in Happy Days, remember how Richies brother just sort of dissapears....Jeffrey would have been a good explanation for that.

Looks like Ms. Bustamante got her day in court and was found guilty and sentenced to life.Parole eligible after 30 years,I believe? Might have gotten that wrong.
You know,in so many of these cases, you want to blame the parents,or lack threreof, but at a certain age, there is a point where the kid makes a choice. She chose a very bad thing indeed.
