First appearance for suspect in year old boy's decapitation

CNN:A father made his first appearance in court today in the accussation of decapititation of his son.Jerimiah Lee Wright has admitted to cutting off his disabmentally develoveped son and leaving the head on the table where the child's mother would find it.

The child, who had suffered from cerebral palsey claimed that over the years, without interaction with his son,he became an "it" and "looked at it as an inanimate object".

I am utterly and completely stunned. What has happened to our society?

Maybe I have just become too jaded, but unfortunately, as sad as this case is, it doesn't shock or surprise me all that much. Society is beyond f'ed up these days.

I guess I'm still in a place where bsome things just make me stop and say,"What in the HELL?" I've seen plenty enough things that most people would be horrified at that,I just shook my head at and went to the next thing.

For me it seems to be a child thing. When a crime involves a child or an elderly person it seems to much more brutal and senseless than some teenage kid getting caught with a bag of weed.Yet we have much more strict laws against marijuana users than we do child molesters.

Care to comment on that?         evileye

I think the shock value will always be there when it comes to children. We are always shocked when a crime is commited against a child, and we are also shocked when a crime is commited by a child. That said, this is what I can't understand: Why would you hurt your own child just to get back at your ex spouse. Or ex sig other. They might be your ex, but they are still the mother or father of the child you both share. I will never understand why parents think hurting their own children to get back at their ex wife or ex husband is the way to go. That's what shocks me.

This is so sad. I am originally from Arnaudville Louisiana and my Mom's side of the family still lives there. I agree with the shock of a child being harmed. It's so hard to imagine any violence to a child who is so helpless.

Well said to the pair of you!

Children are living and breathing innocent creatures. It really breaks my heart when they are the victims of violence or abuse of any kind. All crime sucks, that goes without saying. But for me,when a child is the victim, such as JonBenet Ramsey or Caylee Anthony,I snap.I lose any sense of objectivity or rationality. It is one of my worst flaws and one reason that in the event I ever got called for jury duty,I know they'd throw me off there faster than you can say,oh something like,"website administrator" LMAO!   evileye

I hope and pray I am never called for jury duty, especially in the case involving a crime against a child. I couldn't handle that.

Yeah you could.I have unwavering faith in you,Navy. I may be the ringleader and keep it hot,but you crack the whip and put on the show.

Anybody who has any doubt about that is a fool.

I read more into this case and I actually called family back home to talk about it. No one has a direct connection with the Mother or Father, but my cousin knows one of the responding officers. no She said that the whole group of officers that were first on scene have been wrecked by this particular incident. The one she knows has children of his own and he is seeking out serious therapy.

I could never imagine responding to something like this, let alone responding and having a family of my own to return to. I hope everyone is praying for the family but also for the rest of the people who were brought into this case.

cry I have two children that I babysit and they knew about this. I almost cried when the youngest, 6 years old, when she asked me how a Daddy could do that I told her I didn't know and she asked to send a card to the Mother of the boy. I told her I'd have to make sure it was ok with her Mom first and then we could look into getting a card to that poor Mother. My heart just broke completely in half after that happened. no

Oh good Lord. This makes me physically ill. It is bad enough this happened and now we have to explain it to our kids.

I just bet all the responding officers needed help.I had nothing to do with it and *I* have lost sleep over it. This is just the worst of the worst. I swear if this scumbag tries to get off on an insanity plea,I will lose it completely.      evileye

disbelief

Devastating. I hate that so many criminals have made that their "go to" plea.

True, but it's getting harder and harder to get away with stuff on an insanity plea.I was actually talking to my DR about this (in regard to Andrea Yates) and he told me that back in the day they gave everyone and their brother a "crazy check".If they didn't understand it,then they were obviously mental as and that was that.

But with the advancements of medicine, forensics and psychiatry,it is much harder to get away with something on an insanity plea.I for one,am glad. You shouldn't be able to just cop out like that. It's ridiculous.       evileye

Agreed.

I'm not saying there aren't legitimate insanity plea deals.....like Andrea Yates. That woman was crazy. But it is more often than not the case, the person isn't legitimately "insane".       evileye
