Who Knew... A Few Good Men Is Actually Based On A True Story

Who knew that one of the greatest Jack Nicholson movies of all time is loosely based on real events... and that a mysterious death is connected to those events?

 

. It seems that it was indeed based upon the trials of Navy JAG attorneys Don Marcari and former New Mexico United States Attorney David Inglesias, with Marcari being played by Tom Cruise in the film.

Here's the story - Marcari was 28, out of law school, stationed at NAS Oceana, and set to defend a Marine charged with attempted murder.   He defended Lance Cpl. David Cox, who was then 19. Along with nine other Marines, Cox was charged with tying up and gagging a fellow Marine who complained to the Naval Investigative Service about peer harassment. Yes, it was truly a Code Red and it did take place at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. But, the Marine that was tied up and gagged didn't die. When offered an Other-Than-Honorable discharge, seven of the Marines took it rather than face a court martial. However, Marcari didn't draw a confession out of the base commander Col. Samuel Adams a la Cruise in the movie. Col. Adams just said he wasn't aware Code Reds were going on and there must have been a mistake. Cox was eventually charged with simple assault and got off with time already spent in the brig. And, he was allowed to stay in the Marine Corps, unlike the enlisted men in the movie.

One of the Marines involved was mysteriously killed shortly after this all took place... and some believe his death is in some way connected to all of this.

This was on VH1 last night! Why didn't you tell me it is the "You can't handle the truth!!" movie?

LMAO! It was okay! I sat through it which is more than I can say for most Tom Cruise movies!! But only because you told me to.

Not my fault your taste in movies sucks!! Try watching something directed by Oliver Stone....maybe written by Quentin Tarentino?

True Romance? Natural Born Killers? If you can sit through something that DOESN'T suck,that is.

JFK was not his best work. Didn't you see Platoon? What about Born On The Fourth Of July? Your friend Tom was in that.

Everyone makes fun of Quentin until they remember he wrote the script for Pulp Fiction.

You're the only person I know that said they didn't like Pulp Fiction. Platoon and Born On The Fourth Of July were both Acadamy Award winners so for being just "ok" thry didn't do too badly.
