Dzhokhar Tsarnaev asked Allah to forgive him and apologized to the victims and survivors of his terrorist attack on the 2013 Boston Marathon during his appearance in front of a federal court Wednesday.
I would like to apologize to the victims and the survivor. I am sorry for the lives I have taken, for the suffering I have caused, and for the terrible damage I have done.
I pray to Allah to bestow his mercy on those affected in the bombing and their families. I pray for your healing.
With that, Tsarnaev sat down and Judge George A. OToole decided his fate.
I sentence you to the penalty of death by execution. He went on. to quote Shakespear's line that the evil that men do lives on after them, and that the good is interred with their bones. The judge told him that no one would remember him as compassionate to disabled people and fun to be around.
I'm going to have a couple of links for you and you can read through. This has a long story and I don't want to be repetative. I'm suprised he said anything. I really didn't think he was going to.
AP/MSN: WOBURN, Mass. Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will still face state charges in the death of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer even though he is already on death row inside a federal prison, a prosecutor said.
Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan told The Boston Globe it was appropriate to continue with the case considering Tsarnaev's federal convictions are not final pending appeal.
Tsarnaev, 21, was sentenced to death last month after being convicted of federal charges in the April 2013 bombing that killed three people and injured more than 260 others. Some of those charges related to the shooting of officer Sean Collier by Tsarnaev and his older brother Tamerlan days after the bombings as they tried to flee the area.
Now, I copied and pasted that because to be honest, I'm not sure how that charge works and I don't want to try and interpret any of that. The link explains it but he's being incarcerated in a supermax facility so....yeah. Give it a read. I think they can charge him but as far as bringing him back to MA for a trial? Not clear at all on any of that.
From WMUR:Lawyers for Boston bomber Dzhokar Tsanaev are asking for a new trial arguing that because of widespread publicity and outrage over the attack, their client did not and could not have recieved a fair trial in Boston. They are asking for a new trial in an area where jurors can be impartial.
The filing says that the atmosphere surrounding the trial and the jury tainted Tsanaev's constitutional right to an impartial trial. It asks that the guilty verdict be overturned and the court provide a new trial to determine his guilt and the appropriate penalty.
Federal prosecutors have not returned a request for comment.
*I* have a comment! This is some . He was tried and convicted. A jury of his peers set his sentence. His own council admitted he and his brother were responsible for the acts that resulted in the death of 3 people and the injuring of 260 others. Do we really need to make the taxpayers responsible for another whole go around? I say not. There's no reason for all this. We have to foot the bill for an appeal and we have to pay to incarcerate this young man who admittedly hates this country. Why are we going to give him more than he has already taken away from us?
I don't think he's worth it. He has already robbed us of too much. It is time for him to pay the price for his actions.
AP/MSN: A federal jury has rejected a motion to release the names of the jurors in the trial of Boston bomber Dzhokar Tsanaev.
But one juror has spoken out, saying if he had known that some of the families of the victims would had wanted a life sentence, he would have voted differently. 23 year old Kevin Fagen didn't discuss deliberations but is the first juror to speak out publicly, using his name and said he could relate to Tsanaev because they were so close in age.
