I know y'all remember this whole thing. The murder of Jose and his wife Mary Louise "Kitty" Menendez in 1989 [holy crap that seems like forever ago!] by their sons Lyle,20 and Eric,18 was a huge freaking deal. Mega media coverage every the hell where. At first the brothers were cooperative and distraught but after some spending serious cheddar, the cops got wise and one of them, I think it was Lyle, confessed to their psych that they'd murdered their parents. The reason? They were in fear for their lives because they were going to break away and tell people that Jose had been molesting them. Their father was going to murder them to keep them quiet about the abuse.
Or so they say. I don't know, I wasn't there. I know what I heard [you know what they say about that] and I know what's been in the press [and you and I REALLY know what they say about that] so I won't go into a bro v. bro dissertation. This is about the news that the Lifetime Channel is making a movie on the saga of the deaths of the Menendez'. And set to star as Kitty, is none other than Courtney Love! I was like, right on. Courtney doesn't get much credit for anything, and is continually run into the ground and blamed for Kurt Cobain's death. But Courtney is actually talented. Did any of you guys see"The People Vs. Larry Flynt"? That movie was brilliant.
We'll see how this pans out. Honestly I don't see why there is a need for another movie about what these two did. But Lifetime isn't exactly known for it's sensitivity. Here's your link. I actually will watch this one, but honestly I'm just doing it because I want to see Courtney. You go grrrrrrl.
Today got away from me, man, I really messed that up. Summer...this town is a
I got to see the movie "Menendez:Blood Brothers" from the Lifetime network. If you don't know this story, Google it. It's an old case. It's all over the internet.
So, anyway, I know Lifetime movies get the ass end of everything, and usually I think they deserve it. I didn't watch the credits and I should have, because I don't know who is responsible for this movie. The whole movie is centered around the theory that they were in fear for their lives after having been subjected to abuse from their domineering father and compliant mother. In the telling of this [like I said now, IDK who wrote this] Lyle goes to the Dad, Jose and tells him he is going to become responsible for his little brother and the sexual abuse was going to stop. That starts the downward trajectory, if you will; they believe Jose is going to murder them, they know their mother [an amazing Courtney Love] is of no help so they decide to kill their parents, out of fear.
They blew through a crazy amount of cheddar in such a short amount of time that of course the cops were like, wait hold up, that's odd. Erik was even in Lebanon or somewhere when Lyle got picked up for this, he was playing in some kind of tennis tournament. And as Erik starts to adjust himself to a world without Mommy, Courtney comes through as an apparition, in modest blouses and skirts. She admits she made mistakes, and asks for his forgiveness. Lyle doesn't get the soft treatment like Erik. Jose wanted to blame Erik [again, allegedly] Lyle was the mastermind. The person I was watching it with said,"They didn't burst in and shoot them like that, did they?"
Yeah. That's exactly what they did. This was a tremendously violent and very personal crime.
If you have the Lifetime network, watch this. I usually don't but someone saved it for me.
